The sledgehammer response is the modern version of a lynch mob. Don't let CP off the hook be pretending this is a simple tit for tat.
Photon, when the dust settles on this we need to come up with some anti-bullying rules for CP. This is crazy.

Big Enviro will hire him - so it's not totally ruined.

Fair enough. I'm done with it. The guy could do some damage control of his own I presume.

It may be cruel at first but he could rectify this by actually apologizing instead of continuing on and on.

Not that I want to argue Silver, because I don't, but this is all pure speculation is it not? I agree that there could be an element of permanent damage done to his reputation but these questions are extremely difficult to qualify. Maybe it is his 15 minutes of fame (or more likely infamy). The more likely issue is that in a potential job interview, the interviewer may ask him to give some context to his comments regarding the Alberta Floods of 2013.
Like someone mentioned, this (outing) will be the consequence of his action. I have a difficult time seeing similarities with the Amanda Todd, Rehtaeh Parsons or Audrie Pott cases.

I enjoyed that press conference. Mayor Nenshi sounded firm and at times angry.

Pointing out what someone said is not sabotaging anyone's career.
If people we making up lies or making up false statements sure, but he is the one that said it, he is the one who would be sabotaging any future career.

We're going to go down to my gf's place this afternoon to see what the water level is like at her bowness place. Her place was one of the hardest hit. Anyone know what that whole area by Mary's corner store is like today?

More frustrated then angry. Frustrated at peoples stupidity forcing Police and Fire services away from where it's needed to rescue people from the river.

How is this bullying ?
We are putting him in his place.
We didn't find some random person and say well lets go after him. He asked for this.

I'm glad the CP community thinks internet vigilante justice should be carried out from their armchairs against some schmuck in BC who did not hurt anyone, while ignoring the countless pedophiles, racists, homophobes, and rapist/rape apologists who hurt people daily on the web.
Great job on having an emotional response to regionalism but not humanism.

Unfortunately it does not surprise me there are a number of yahoos who would take to the river by boat even at this time.
Good to hear this from the mayor; but those same people who are going on the river wouldn't care what he, the police, CFD or others have told people to stay away from in this devastation in certain areas - they want to get their rocks off being in the center of all this.

Had I taken several days off from work starting Wednesday & not turned on the TV, or internet as I seldom - but occasionally do - my community in Calgary was not affected directly - I'd be in the dark to this disaster that has happened until I turned on the news (or worse - just get ready for work tomorrow & try dropping off my son at day home in same unaffected community).
Now I understand most people are connected almost all the time- myself included (the curse of our society); but if i get time off (very rare) I try to unplug from the iPhone, internet & news; as I'm all too often connected to the office.
I am hoping the company I work for in affected outer downtown area gets power running again will allow for volunteer days for employees to help others in need; but also I'm sure we'll be asked to remote work rather than plug up the downtown (with transit so drastically affected even if companies can work there is no reasonable way for all 150,000+ people to drive to the core).
So far family & friends I know have not been affected (except my brother in Banff where most of his regular customers are from Canmore & have no or limited access to get in & out); & as others in affected areas have mentioned to not want onlookers in their community - I would like to help out where possible even though I'm white collar & do not know anything about remediation - but would want to assist with some elbow grease once my son's day home re-opens.
Is there anything online yet by folks directly asking for help in Bowness or other NW areas affected.
Also sad to read of the looting reported in the Sun in at least one home in Inglewood area.
