Not sure where you get that from. I think most of our team are middle ground players. I think Knight will be a middle ground player. I am just not afraid to call out a bust when it is pretty obvious.

This is a great and shocking move by the Flames 6,2 210 lb young center with Knights talent. Has he been signed yet?
Local kid and i could care less if he cheered for the Oilers or VAN what is past is past he is a Flames now.
Max Reinhart grew up a VAN fan because of his pops and he is a full fledged Calgary Flame. I don't think anyone is holding who he cheered for as a kid against him now.

Quote:
Growing up, Corban Knight was an avid Vancouver Canucks fan.
Born in Oliver, BC, the pivot idolized Trevor Linden, respecting the former Canucks' centreman presence both on and off the ice, and rooted solely for the boys from British Columbia.
However, on Tuesday morning, that kinship with the Canucks organization was completely severed.
The Flames acquired the 22 year-old's rights from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Calgary's fourth round pick at the 2013 NHL Draft.
"All my family is from BC so I was a pretty big Canucks fan," he admitted with a slight chuckle. "But I dropped all loyalties to them pretty fast and I'm a diehard Flames fan now."
Quote:
"Growing up in the Alberta area, I've been around the Flames and even when I was younger, I didn't like to admit it, I thought it was ... an unbelievable franchise. The passion for hockey here is great.
"Today is a very cool and very memorable day for me. I'm very happy about this opportunity and to be a part of the Flames organization."
Quote:
He is also the first player at UND to record 40+ points in three straight seasons since TJ Oshie and Ryan Duncan did so in the 2007-08 season.
"The on-ice development in Grand Forks ... it was huge. I had the all the opportunity in the world to get better as a hockey player and that will really set me up well for the transition (to pro).
"Off the ice, being away from home and having to balance your schedule helps you grow up. The mental side was equally as important for me - I grew up."
Quote:
"Every hockey player wants to be as consistent as possible and that is something I knew I had to improve on in order to move to the next level," he explained. "From where I was four years ago to now, I'm happy with where I am and will continue to work on getting better."
Quote:
"Obviously the NHL is the best league in the world and if it was easy to play, everybody would be playing. I understand and respect how elite it is. But I really want to feel that I can push for spot come this fall. I'm going to do whatever it takes.
"I'm thrilled to even have the chance."

Sounds like a kid with a good head on his shoulders. I think that's probably an under-appreciated benefit to a good college player over their junior counter parts. They're in a better environment to mature and learn how to do things for themselves. By the time they turn pro, that's one less(and fairly big) adjustment they have to make.

Don't want to be nitpicking or anything, but I have read that a few times today and I don't think this is true for Duncan ... unless both hockeyDB and eliteprospects are wrong, which I doubt. He had 36 points in his first year and 39 points in his last year, so three straight 40+ seasons is not true. Not that it's important, just something I noticed. BTW Duncan now plays in Austria ... just such a small, small player

I think that would be ideal. I would love if in 375 days we are talking about our top three centers being:

Sam Reinhart
Sean Monahan
Corban Knight

Definitely starting to right the ship and point it in the right direction if that is the case.

Draft day: Nick Kyreos: The Flames are announcing a trade. For their 2013 22 and 28th picks to Montreal they are recieving prospect Danny Kristo.

How awesome would that be to see/hear?

Less awesome than "With the second overall pick in the draft, the Calgary Flames select Nathan Mackinnon."

Well of course, but that's not going to happen. Neither is my scenario, but it's fun to make it up from whole cloth now and then.

That would be the absolute worst, actually.

If Bouwmeester and Iginla fetch ONE first rounder each, then I doubt an unknown will fetch TWO first rounders.

I'm extremely happy that the Flames were able to pull off a deal for Knight. Obviously there a ton of question marks about his future, but thankfully not about his abilities. Everything this kid has is what the Flames have been looking for.

I've been reading this thread I think it's a little unfair to peg him as a third line centre or a third line checker or whatever. He seems to have everything it takes to be more than that. Let's not place an artificial ceiling on him just yet.

Either way, I'm excited to see him play. Just being a Hobey Baker finalist doesn't mean much (especially looking at past Hobey Baker finalists and winners). Gotta love the points he's put up in his college career. I love how he led the nation in primary assists. That's huge.

Feaster and Weisbrod really fixed our reputation in terms of giving prospects a legitimate chance.
Yes sir. I was just talking about this earlier today. One of the key positives that the organization has going for it now, and which it had wisely not lose sight of, is the fertile environment that's been created for young players to have an opportunity. If there's something to take from a torturous safari through the NHL's basement, it's that things like this Knight signing may finally start to swing in our favour every now and then.

It makes me wonder what would've happened with Trent Erixon, had he been coming up now instead of a couple years ago. It's clear that he and his parents wanted New York, but it would've been harder to sell the whole "we feel Trent won't have an opportunity to play here" angle within the Flames' current environment.

I wouldn't be surprised if one or 2 guys are on the way out.
