At least he gave them enough notice that they could shop him around and get an asset back. The Erixon thing worked out for us, but it could have been really bad.

Love this signing. About time we were on the other side of this kind of transaction. However, I don't like the trend that's developing with fourth year NCAA players opting for free agency instead of signing with the teams that drafted them. Feaster better be able to get Johnny Hockey signed to a contract at the end of this upcoming season or I'm going to start too worry about his future here in Calgary.

at $3.5mil playing on the 2nd/3rd line and 1st unit pp, i will be fine with no defensive play from iggy.

Just don't put him out with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd with a 1 goal league. Right Brent?

I wouldn't. I remember watching that draft and thinking "please god, anybody but Nemisz". I watch a lot of OHL and I never saw anything that made me believe he was going to be anything special. I even invented new curse words after that selection. People said the same thing about Chucko, give him another year, it is too early to give up on him. I am not saying Nemisz is as bad as Chucko was but he screams career AHLer to me. At least Kolanos could come in and take a shift in the NHL, anytime Nemisz has played with the big club he has been overwhelmed and looked brutal. Just let him go and free that spot up for somebody else. Don't we have to give him a raise too? Screw that, cut him loose.

The only thing they got right on that was his size, lol. Comparing him to a Joel Otto or a John Leclaire is like comparing Butterbean to Muhammed Ali.

It shouldn't change things in the draft. Knight is a good prospect, and a good centre.

He looks like a 3rd liner, and maybe could be a 2nd liner with the right development.

Its a good piece, but doesn't change the fact a true number 1 is still needed at some point.

In a nutshell Corban Knight told me he was relieved it was not a "Justin Schultz" type situation. #Flames

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions 42s
Knight adds that Danny Kristo his UND teammate could surprise next Sunday in Newark. #2013NHLDraft

I think his situation was far different than Schmultz's. FLA knew the had no room for him and it was an amicable split.
Seems like the kid has a good head on his shoulders.

@RogMillions: Big smile when asked about #Flames contract. Not officlal till July 5. Big smile on his face when I mentioned July 10 #Flames Dev. Camp.

I like this move, I don't see him having much more than a 3rd line upside, however he's young enough he could still surprise us. As previously mentioned a 4th round pick this year is going to take 2,3 or 4 years if not longer to pay dividends and odds are, won't ever play a game for the Flames.

My big fear is that Feaster is going to let moves like this influence his draft to the point where he takes Nichuskin now instead of a guy like Lindholm who is going to take a year or two before he's ready. I know that he is bent on having a "NHL ready" guy drafted for us, but I am extremely nervous about picking a prima donna from Russia who has a high chance to run home to the KHL if things don't go his way (opinion, not fact).

What's this supposed to mean? I thought he was Montreal property already?

Yeah, I don't get that. Kristo is signed to a contract.

Maybe this is the moment our fortunes turn around?

This seems like the first time I've been excited for the Flames season to start since '10

That's why it would be such a surprise if he gets drafted.

And now we see the first side benefit of starting the rebuild. In the space of two years we went from a team where agents/prospects thought they wouldn't get a chance with and thus demanded a trade away from (Erixon) to a team that obviously gives their prospects a chance (see Hanowski, Reinhart, Cundari, Bancks, etc) and thus can now attract good young players who are stuck in organizations with great depth.

Feaster and Weisbrod really fixed our reputation in terms of giving prospects a legitimate chance.

Why do you never have middle ground when evaluating players?

It's either amazing or garbage.
