Is what we're currently looking at. Definitely need to offload 1-2 more aging vets. Making room for Reinhart will be tough.. Even more so if we draft a centerman at #6 that they feel can slot in next season as well.

Hopefully the Flames show patience with him. I would expect that its more likely that he's a Heat instead of a Flame this year.

But if the Flames do well in the draft, and if this kid revolves into a NHL third line regular, then the Flames will have had a successful off season.

Does this change the way we view the draft? Getting Mackinnon vs. keeping all our picks?

If it ends up being Lindholm/Monahan, then he would likely slot in next season. And if by some miracle they manage to trade for 1st/2nd/3rd overall and get MacKinnon or Drouin, then that guy would be an automatic linemate for Sven in the top 6.

Has to be Verbal at this point.

Feaster said in his presser that he had been talking to Knight and his agent for the last 10 days. The 2 year deal was probably agreed upon before the trade happend.

...and then add a top 3 pick from next years draft. Giggitty.

Building a contender through the draft is all about hitting a home run on picks after the first. I think this is one of those situations. If you just traded a 4th rounder for a potential 2nd line center (who is big and can take face offs), that is a home run.

I am hoping desperately that Monahan falls to the flames. Having a pair of centers that are really good faceoffs is a step in the right direction (watching Bergeron go 85% in the dot yesterday was a thing of beauty).

Big win for Feaster IMO. One of his best moves of his tenure.

A good pickup, faceoffs are a huge area of need, and more defensively responsible centres take the heat off the defence.
It is much easier to covert a centre to wing, especially a checking/energy guy. I could see a bottom 6 like this:

Horak - Stajan - Stempniak
Bouma - Knight - McGrattan/Jackman

And of course, guys like Hanowski, Nemisz, Reinhart, Jones, Ferland, Aliu, Byron could factor in depending on the organization's plan for them and if they impress if part of the main training camp.

That logic makes no sense. Round value means nothing compared to recent performance. For example, would you consider a 3rd for Gaudreau overpayment?

Verbal likely. I don't think they can officially sign until the Flames shed contracts to free agency.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but Knight tops out at a good 3rd line, or maybe 2nd line center. So I would still aim for MacKinnon if at all possible. But barring that (one can hope, but I'm not holding my breath ), then we should still be drafting a center like Barkov/Monahan/Lindholm.

Good call. Now we need to offload another vet or two even more. Make room for that youth movement.

Good Choice:
Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 7s Battle for Knight's rights came down to CGY and EDM. The High River, Alta., native opted for the Flames over the Oilers. Plays centre.

If Flames didn't get in there and trade the 4th perhaps Knight ends up an Oiler.
