I can already see the threads had this deal not happened: Fire Feaster...
- why would he wait until free agency to try and sign the guy when we could have given up a 4th and had a guarantee. Of course he wants to go to a contender and win a cup in his first year.
- Feasters an idiot for getting into the bidding war and offering him that much money regardless of the other 4 teams pushing hard for him

Great move - 0 downside. If Fla is lucky, that 4th turns into something like Corban Knight in 3+ years......just saved ourselves some time.

Back on topic, good work Feaster! I was hoping he'd go after this kid when I read about him not wanting to re-sign in FLA.

Now...hopefully this leads to a deal for the second overall pick.

Let's not overblow the whole canucks thing. He can like whoever he wants, so long as his allegiance as a player is fully with the Calgary Flames. He'll learn to hate them soon enough anyways. 2, 3 games in to next season's series and he'll be dropping f-bombs while Kesler dives at the touch of his stick.

I still think he has more upside. Not a lot of offensive upside, but he makes room for his linemates (in limited viewings of him). Last year was an off year, but he's still a pretty intelligent player.

I think its really important for everyone not to underestimate the importance of him playing in front of his family.

Personally if I was in the same situation were I had to opportunity to have my parents come see me play in the NHL every home game with travel that would not effect their day to day lives I would take that opportunity 100% of the time.

Potentially adding Corban Knight to our 3 first rounds picks this year(One of them being Monahan or Lindholm, hopefully) and adding to Baertschi, Brodie, Backlund, Gaudreau, Wotherspoon, Sieloff, Reinhart, Agostino, Granlund, Jankowski, Jon Gillies, and Brossoit is very exciting.

Is what we're currently looking at. Definitely need to offload 1-2 more aging vets. Making room for Reinhart will be tough.. Even more so if we draft a centerman at #6 that they feel can slot in next season as well.
Being that Bouma is coming off a lost year he is not guaranteed anything. He and Reinhart will have to battle for the last couple of spots, along with several other guys like Hanowski, Byron etc. Not to mention that Jackman and McGrattan will be in and out of the lineup several times this year.

PLUS, it wouldn't hurt Reinhart to spend the bulk of the year in the AHL to work on his offensive game at the pro level. He was just a little off from scoring quite a few goals during his NHL call up and needs to work on that goal scoring touch.

Whoever we draft will challenge for a roster spot, but more than likely will start the year in Abbotsford...unless somehow we pull off a miracle and draft Jones, MacKinnon, or Drouin.

Next year we have lots of expiring contracts: Cammalleri, Stajan, Stempniak, Jones, Jackman, Sarich, Smith. At that point, just about every available prospect will be called on to play for the big club, with a sprinkling of veteran signings to balance out the lineup (wouldn't mind keeping Stempniak for example).

All I'm saying is there isn't any point to rushing prospects. They are in the plans long term and development means perfecting your game at the lower level before being called on to play in the NHL regularly. Look at Brodie for the most recent example of how to give a guy that was seemingly NHL ready the proper development to become the best possible player he can.

Oh, I'm not trying to overblow it. I just found it kinda funny.

But then again, if you put yourself in his shoes, Calgary is the best opportunity that he has, because we're so thin at center, and lacking good prospects. The Oilers and Canucks don't have room for him.

If you're a young kid trying to make the NHL, you'll go to whichever team will take you, regardless of your childhood allegiance. And if you're lucky enough to have the choice as a free agent at a young age, you're going to pick the team that gives you the best chance to launch your career.

Re: Nemisz. Flames have invested a lot of time and money into him. Another one year deal to see if he can rebound is ok. Maybe you get a serviceable 3rd liner out of him yet

I know it's Don Cherry but NHL radio just mentioned that Grapes is certain that Colorado is going to take Makinnon at #1. So then what? Hold off the trade until Colorado selects first I guess.

I don't know how Knight will pan out at the NHL level, but if he's a capable 2nd line center then this is a fantastic deal. 2nd line centers who can play both ways well, with size and faceoff winning prowess are never found in the 4th round.

It's a great deal if he becomes a third liner.

That's stupid. Colorado has plenty of forwards and notably center men, they need defensemen. The Avs are becoming the new Oilers.

Stupid Avs.

Don't know much about Knight other than one article that was fairly glowing, ... potentially nice pick-up for the Flames if they sign him ....
