How much has changed since 2011? The Canucks were the odds-on favourite to win the cup that year. The Flames were treading water and appearing to start on a slide down the standings. The Canucks now appear closer to where the Flames were in 2011, and after two straight first-round exits in the playoffs in the last two seasons, I have to think that the shine is rapidly wearing off.

Not only that, but what kind of a role would he get with the Canucks?

When you watch the interview with him and he says he signed with North Dakota because he was a big fan of theirs, it makes me wonder if he wouldn't again go for his favorite team in the NHL. Would be too bad for the Flames and the kid as I think there's a real good fit there, would be better for his career and the Flames desperately need some centre depth.
With the Canucks having Kesler and Sedin up the middle will probably be competing for scraps with Gaunce and Schroeder and could end up buried in the A for the whole year if the Canucks sign or trade for one more established NHL centre as expected.

The best player in the history of our franchise also grew up cheering for the Oilers. Had twitter been around in 1995, I'm sure Iginla would have been mocking the Flames for choking to the Sharks.
When you're suddenly a millionaire at 20 your favourite team growing up no longer matters.

The Flames have drafted tons of kids from Edmonton and Vancouver, notably Max Reinhart, who suddenly decided they didn't like the team they grew up cheering for anymore.

Yes, but the Flames didn't draft Knight. He's going to be a FA who can pretty much pick where he wants to go.
I hope you guys are right though.

What could cause a southern alberta kid to develop such bad taste?
Who brainwashed him.. like I actually don't understand how people not from Vancouver develop a liking for that team. And it's one thing to find a soft spot for the Canucks, but another to hate on a team you're growing up just down the road from.
The Oilers I could fully understand but this.. is just wrong. Come on over to the good guys, kid. You might get to play for 'em. The Nucks would just leave you out to dry.

Relax, everyone.
Canucks fans have been jumping off the bandwagon like it's on fire, ever since the first round exit to LA.
If he's anything like the Canucks fans I see on the Internet, he got his free Prada handbag, became a die-hard Oilers fan in the lockout because they're obviously the team of the future, was briefly a Sharks fan after their fast start, and has been a committed Penguins supporter for about 3 months.
People here are worried about his loyalty to te Canucks? Have you ever MET a Canucks fan?

It's as good as ours (or slightly worse as we have Baertschi and they don't have anyone quite that good although Jensen is fairly decent)

not good. HF has them at number 27 in their team rankings (the Flames are at number 20) and they don't have a lot of quality in their system. At center, they have
- Brendan Gaunce
- Jordan Schroeder
- Joseph Labate
- Alexandre Mallet
- Prab Rai
- Alex Friesen
- Stefan Schneider
- Kellan Lain
Of those, Schroeder and Gaunce are the only ones that would be competition for Knight in the near future. I guess Schroeder is close to making the team on a permanent basis and Gaunce could make the jump from junior hockey. Other than that, it looks like a really shallow pool of center prospects. Labate probably has two years of college hockey left, Mallet only had 1 assist in 18 AHL games and spent the rest of the year in the ECHL, Friesen only registered a single goal and 5 points in 42 AHL games. Rai has been hampered by serious injuries and hasn't even played a single AHL game since turning pro three years ago. Schneider had just 8 goals in 127 AHL games over three seasons and is probably done in the organization. College signing Lain had no points in 13 AHL games.
So based on that, Knight would not have a lot of competition if he wants to sign with the divers ... expect for, you know, one of the Sedin sisters and Kesler.

That sounds about right for a punk who's refusing to sign with the team that drafted him. I'd probably warm up to him eventually if he signed in Calgary, but players who do that automatically go on my "most hated" list.

I agree, but in his case I can actually understand why he doesn't want to sign. On a team that already has Jonathan Huberdeau in their line-up, plus Nick Bjugstad and Vincent Trocheck ready to step up and possibly Nathan MacKinnon come draft day, I'd be sceptic of my chances too.

Uhhhh, no. Flames are trending towards middle of the pack, Vancouver are trending to one of the worst in the league.

I don't know...If the Canucks offered me the rookie max to play in the NHL (with lack of depth at my position) I would probably take the money and run.
Money + a shot at playing in the NHL might be enough for the kid to change his tune.

Canucks are right up against the cap. 'Rookie max' is not going to be part of their vocabulary until they get Luongo off the payroll.
In the meantime Corban can get himself fitted for a #10 in red jersey and pencil himself onto our 3rd line. He reminds me a bit of Kesler. Speedy, agitator, face-off whiz & right-hand shot. I'll turn a blind eye to his disgusting habits (Canucks fan) & welcome him with open arms.
