Someone tell goon48 to post it on his site. Seemed to work pretty well for his Hobey Baker jihad.

Trading for his rights seems like a waste of assets.

If he is truly going for the Flames then waiting till August 15th means the Flames will get him regardless.

If he is open to other teams, then he will wait till August 15th when all teams can bid for his services.

That is why any assets traded for his rights will be small assets.

If we trade we can get him in prospect camp. If we wait to sign, main camp. Certainly wouldn't give up too much.

The Saddledome.

Price will be a 3rd round pick just to get into the front door.

I'd give up a 5th to ensure he signs with us. I don't trust the high priced pitches accross the league to sway him

I would trade them Nemisz, Irving or someone along those lines to ensure we can sign him.

Knight would be an interesting add, especially if they did draft Monahan. Our center depth in prospects would have some nice size. Monahan at 6'2, Knight at 6'2, Jankowski at 6'3, Arnold at 6'0, Reinhart at 6'0 and Granlund at 5'11. All of a sudden the Flames don't seem to be that small, especially when you add in wingers Hanowski at 6'2, Ferland at 6'2, and Agostino at 6'1. Makes Bartschi and Gaudreau's size issues not as such a big deal. It would be nice if the Flames could also add a couple of forwards like Zykov at 6'2 and Lodge at 6'2 who could play on the right side. Size not much of an issue any more.

Would be really nice to land this guy. Did some youtube scouting during the Hobey voting and he seems like a decent player. Hometown kid too.

It would help with the overall size of the team, but most of the players in your post are bottom 6 players. Flames need to add a lot more size to the top 6.

At most I'd give them something like Nemisz or Irving.

Just wait and sign him when he's a free agent. If he wants to be a Flame this should be no problem.

so If Ramage did not sign with the Flames he could have been a UFA August 15?

Gaudreau is planning on playing in Boston next season... Only one more year after that he would be a UFA?

Is the clock ticking on Jankowski?

Will he be ready next year? If not and he develops as planned he has to play 1 more year and then he can pick his team?

If Agostino does not sign with the Flames this off season , would he become a UFA next aug 15?

======

It seems that the US college projects... guys that need to grow and fill out like Jankowski and Gaudreau would be extra risky for the teams drafting them... .. guys that need 3 years to get ready have to be considering staying another year and becoming UFA's and picking their teams if they pan out.

Guys playing CHL junior hockey basically run out of a place to play hockey 2 years after they are drafted. Also they get their $95,000 signing bonuses when they are signed that binds them to the team

It is a risk especially with a high pick like Jankowski, but so are guys playing in Europe (Erixon) and even CHL guys will re-enter the draft Jarret Stoll. So getting your guys signed is important regardless of where they come from. The greater risk with the college guys is that after 4 years from the draft they can pick their team instead of just being forced to re-enter the draft.

But if the guy is ready to play in the NHL after year 3 then they only can sign with your team. I would hope that both Jankowski and Gaudreau are ready after year 3 and choose to take the signing bonus. They also can burn an extra year off of their ELC by signing at the end of the season. So if Gaudreau signs in Mar/April next year he gets his signing bonus for next year and knocks a year off of his ELC. So essentially getting 200k plus a year closer to a 1 way deal is a lot of incentive to come out of school a year early.

Even with Corban Knight he essentially turned down an extra 100k signing bonus by not signing with Florida immediately after his team was eliminated so he did have to sacrifice something to call his shot.

It's too bad he never got the chance to be an Omaha Ak-Cor-Ban Knight.
