I have a feeling Nichushkin is going top five. Which will mean we will have our chance at one of the two much talked about centers. It would make me extremely happy if the Flames had to "settle" on Lindholm. What scares me is the Flames site pumping Horvats tires. I think I would cry a little bit if they passed on Lindholm in lieu of Horvat.

If Barkov were still available at 5, I could see the Oilers pushing hard to acquire that pick from Carolina.

With national media reporting & implying that Jones to the Avs 1st overall is essentially a done deal, is this 'trade proposal' just another way for Feaster to get into the media to show the fans that he's 'making an effort to improve the team'?
Colorado's requirements to move the pick are so enormous because I believe they have absolutely no intention of trading away their chance to draft a homegrown superstar (first African American drafted 1st; son of a local sports hero; potential new fan base etc). Feaster would be well aware of this so what's the point? Just kicking tyres & letting the entire NHL know all our picks are in play? It makes us look desperate.
I hate to bring up the ROR incident, but I wonder if that was a similar situation. Knowing that Colorado would match, Feaster could say 'Hey, no one could say I never tried to get Iggy that #1 Centre, right?' 'hey, no one could say I never tried to sign Brad Richards, right?'
When I read about Feaster's attempted moves I shake my head in disbelief. I don't even mind the moves he has made. It's the follies & faltered near-miss catastrophies that are starting to make me ashamed to be a Flames fan.
|
People are reading too much into this.
GMs speak with eachother constantly. I doubt more than few days goes by where the Flames aren't in contact with another GM about moving a pick. The Flames have stated they want to move up, for obvious reasons.
I'd bet the Flames have been in contact with every GM that has a pick 1-5, and probably in contact with all the teams below them too.

Not really. He is a great 2nd line centre but you would you classify him in the same ilk as Getzlaf, Kopitar, Crosby, ect?? The Bruins have 2 very good 2nd line C's in Bergeron and Krejci and Seguin could have the talent if played at C to be a #1C down the road potentially but I would certainly not say Bergeron is a #1 C.

Really? I guess it depends on what you think a number 1 centre is, but I count the Bruins as having two.
If by number 1 centre, you mean top five centre in the league, then I would agree.

I mean a guy who is a #1 offensive threat, not a good two way guy. Sure, Langkow was used as a #1C for us but was he really a #1? That is how I see Bergeron. Bergeron is good but he is not a guy who can dominate and produce points like a Getzlaf, or even a E. Staal or a Spezza. Who is the other? Krejci? No way. You could kind of argue for Bergeron but Krejci is definitely a 2nd line C.

I can see Bergeron as a #1 center. He may not be an elite center but he plays the game the way it needs to be played. Not all #1 centers need to be scoring like crazy.

THat is the way I see a #1 C though, a guy who can dominate and put up big points. Bergeron is too hot and cold for me offensively. Great checking game though. I guess it is what you see a #1 C as. For me it is a guy that racks up points and dominates.

Who is the other? Is it Krejci? Are you kidding me? Yes, it is the guy who is leading the playoffs in scoring by 5 points. Yes he is a number one centre.

When did I say anything about sucking overall? Hockey players have bad games.

I agree with diss that a #1C is one that when it's crunch time, he's one of the first players you look at in getting you that goal. He's an offensive threat first before anything else. Bergeron is more of a high level second line centre than a first.

Bergeron is a #1 Center on most teams in the league. He's a different player than Staal and Getz because they're "power forward" type centers but I'd say he's on par with Spezza.
And I'll say that Krejci is a 1B center too. On a lot of teams in the league, he'd be on their top line. The bruins have pretty good depth at Center but Bergeron is their best center and he'll sign an 8 extension worth about 7 mill per this July because the B's think he is too

the reason Boston is successful is because they are a bunch of really good players. Most aren't all star calibre but still quality players. Imo this is the team you try to model your build around. Bergeron and Krejci are great players but they would definitely be classified in the tier below Crosby and Malkin. This is why in a deep draft I think you need keep the picks.
I think it is important to look at the player and not the draft position. Would these players slotted 5 or 6 be rated 5 or 6 if they were in a previous draft class. I don't think you can penalize a player because he came out in a really strong draft class. Look at Yakipov, speculation is that he would fall back to five or six if he was in this draft. Does that mean he isn't as good of a player?

Boston also has two of the most physical skill players in the league in Lucic and Chara. Plus you cant intimidate either one, so when they take liberties with a little extra when finishing a check, there is rarely any response to deter the behaviour.

Krejci and Bergeron are the exact type of centers I want the Flames to draft and develop.
They aren't flashy, 80-100 point, "gimme $8-10 million a year", cap destroying, one way centers.
They're just plain smart, strong two way, excellent face off, clutch as can be, 60-80 point centers who likely won't ever chew up 10-15% of a teams cap.
Very valuable players, and I know it might sound dumb, but I'd probably take that tandem as the Flames #1 and #2 centers over any other tandem in the league, when you take into account the above noted cap considerations.

I dunno peeps...here we are a couple weeks out from the draft and free agency and the Flames are sitting pretty with 3 1st round picks and a bunch of cap space in the midst of a rebuild...hold on to your butts..

Cox is a blowhard. And he's still bitter over Sutter and the way he dealt with the media while he was in Calgary.

Absolutely, to get the 1st or 2nd pick any team would have to give up the sun and the moon but once you get to 3-5 pick I think there are some deals to be done. This is where a team that is deep with decent prospects & promising young roster players like Edmonton or Nashville has a chance to move up. Calgary would have to give up Baertcshi or Brodie to move into the 4-5 slot; & both plus draft picks to get into top 2 or 3. Neither is a smart or viable option for Calgary trying to rebuild with a mediocre depth pool to begin with.
This could be the most interesting & exciting draft we've seen in many years!

I am not sure either guy is really 60-80 more 50-70 guys.
I can't see how they are a better tandem than Malkin-Crosby but I guess it looks good now if you ignore the other factors.
