There should be a straight up trade embargo on the Oilers moving up into the top five. After the last five years they have no business being there again. More than any other team I would hate to see the Oilers get their way yet again and get into the top five.
I have a feeling Nichushkin is going top five. Which will mean we will have our chance at one of the two much talked about centers. It would make me extremely happy if the Flames had to "settle" on Lindholm. What scares me is the Flames site pumping Horvats tires. I think I would cry a little bit if they passed on Lindholm in lieu of Horvat.

The more time goes by the more I get nervous that they go "off the board" if Monahan is gone at 6. Lindholm is the obvious answer in my books, but it seems to be in the wind that he's not really their guy.

Cheering for or against isn't really going to matter. Next year is going to be a gong show.

Interesting how this gets leaked out when, after the ROR thing the Flames "rumors" quieted down almost to nill until the day of the Iginla trade. A combination of "we tried to make a big splash" and "tried but didn't get the other team to budge".

At the same time, oddly enough, the Flames are interviewing candidates for a position equivalent to president of hockey operations, but with president and CEO Ken King and GM Jay Feaster retaining their current powers.

If this is true, then what is the point?

It's Damien Cox, how would he have any ####ing clue what the Flames plans are. He probably knew nothing about this until McKenzie tweeted about it.

More d!ck comments about the Flames. How long are they going to keep using things that almost, but never actually happened to kick us while we're in the dirt? I'd love to know just whose colors these columnists don behind the scenes so that I can rub salt in the wounds when their teams are reeling, cause fact is every team in the league goes through it, with seemingly the lone exception of Detroit.
The media are just a bunch of monkeys looking to chirp cause there's nothing else to spice up their articles. But for once I'd like to read some hockey news about my club without cheap shots and idiot remarks thrown in. Absolutely no sensitivity to the hockey people of this city, with the crap we already have to put up with being Flames fans.

Well hopefully you are right, cause I want King with less control or gone and someone to replace Feaster

Do you have a link to where on the Flames site are they pumping Horvat's tires?
Nichushkin's awful combine has put a wrench in hopes of him going top 5.

To put it another way, that's 3/5 top-picks between 2003–2007.
Sorry, but my money is on Tavares, Stamkos, and any other #1 pick not playing for the Edmonton Oilers becoming parts of championship teams at some point over the next decade.
|
Not sure what "spin" you are implying. The only conjecture was in your post. It's your opinion that is stated to arrive at 3/5 of the last number one drafts having an important impact? How about some facts to substantiate that?
I stated facts - the reason why I didn't go any further was it was beyond my time, and I wouldn't have know any of the players. You want to parse the draft, hell, you might as well cited Kane's year as a basis that the #1 pick = Stanley Cup.
Don't forget, two of the first overall picks who won a Cup were on the same team: Fleury and Crosby. So 2 teams in ten year with the #1 pick have won the cup
I'll take that bet any day of the week. The caveat is that they have to win with the team that selected them...

Mah, go to the draft section on the Flames website and he was one of 5 or 6 stories on draft prospects. But today they put up Monahans so I guess it's moot.
There were ones on Cammarata, Horvat, Connor Hurley, Barkov and Nurse. Now they added Monahans and Muellers today.
http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=673872 heres the link anyways.
EDIT: Ive been checking the Flames website every day and just today it is piled with new draft stuff.

TSN article from a couple of days ago. Seth Jones & his Denver roots: http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/story/?id=425489
Quote:
...Now, it's Seth's turn to return the favour for an organization.
The 18-year-old Jones has grown into one of the top prospects in hockey and is the consensus No. 1 pick in the NHL draft later this month.
That pick belongs to the Avalanche — now led by Sakic, the team's former captain who was recently promoted to executive vice-president of hockey operations.
|
With national media reporting & implying that Jones to the Avs 1st overall is essentially a done deal, is this 'trade proposal' just another way for Feaster to get into the media to show the fans that he's 'making an effort to improve the team'?
Colorado's requirements to move the pick are so enormous because I believe they have absolutely no intention of trading away their chance to draft a homegrown superstar (first African American drafted 1st; son of a local sports hero; potential new fan base etc). Feaster would be well aware of this so what's the point? Just kicking tyres & letting the entire NHL know all our picks are in play? It makes us look desperate.
I hate to bring up the ROR incident, but I wonder if that was a similar situation. Knowing that Colorado would match, Feaster could say 'Hey, no one could say I never tried to get Iggy that #1 Centre, right?' 'hey, no one could say I never tried to sign Brad Richards, right?'
When I read about Feaster's attempted moves I shake my head in disbelief. I don't even mind the moves he has made. It's the follies & faltered near-miss catastrophies that are starting to make me ashamed to be a Flames fan.

This and the fact feaster mentioned at the sth event that if they can link back a link to a supposed rumor, that is grounds for dismissal. If it turns out this is from colorado then the flames will be pissed. Which is probably what colorado is going for, plus it sets the market.

He is one of the worst. I loved it when he got called out for the making stuff up regarding Toronto-Vancouver Luongo deal.
Here's the link if anyone is interested: http://blogs.thescore.com/nhl/2013/0...l-credibility/
