At best they are likely a 7-10 team next year...would you trade TJ Brodie for the 16th overall pick in the draft...tough decision.
|
No chance I don't match if that's what the offer is. Unless we are talking an insanely deep draft, would a 7-10 draft likely be any better than Brodie already is (ignoring the flashes of brilliance that show he could be much more)? Perhaps, odds are no tho.

The lame duck GM that has no real power is probably pissed at Feaster. But given that six teams put in offer sheets, is the organization going to not deal with a third of the league because they tried to sign a holdout?
Sakic and Roy are concerned with building Colorado into a premier franchise again. Vengeance upon Jay Feaster is maybe the last thing in the world they should be thinking about. Or plate tectonics.
From a Flame perspective, Brodie is your number 1 D. By both necessity and merit at this stage. He needs to play 25 minutes a night for 82 games, and grow. The offer required for the Flames to let him go is not one that any other team would pay for a player so early in his development.

Why wouldn't they offer sheet one of the many better or cheaper Dmen? Brodie has a very low chance of being offersheeted because there are much better guys like Shattenkirk and Pietrangelo and guys who are worse but could be had a hell of a lot cheaper like Tanev.

I'd be very curious to see if you still think Shattenkirk is better than Brodie this time next year.

At this moment Shattenkirk is a better player than Brodie I think.

Not sure how much is left:
@Sportsnet960: Flames D TJ Brodie joins @RyanPinder on the Big Show right now.

Missed it. They went on to ask which RFA's do the Flames sign?
Do they ante up a ten percent raise to Neimz? I think they do based on comments Feaster made to the STH's.
Bancks, Howse, Aliu, Byron do they all get re-signed?

Roger likes to create drama out of nothing sometimes, one of the things that bothers me about him.

Don't think its drama, I think its a fair question. The Flames felt the need to extend Joey McDonald with a week or so left in the season, as well as guys like Granlund and Ramage while the season was still on, when they had until early July in all cases.
Don't think there's any reason to think Brodie will be playing somewhere else next year, but the fact that there's no conversation can't automatically be instantly dismissed as a "Flames are too busy to do other things" reason either, given that.

But in all those cases there was a risk the player would be gone for nothing.
Brodie is RFA so all they have to do is qualify him and keep negotiating.

Would an offersheet target not more likely be on a team cap constrained or limited by internal budget? The Flames have a history of deep pockets and are nowhere near the cap. Not the profile of a team you try to exploit
Sometimes a player in a known contract dispute, often driven by the conditions just mentioned.

Those were all easy contracts to work out though. Two standard ELCs and then MacDonald who wasn't in a position to bargain. Goalies of his calibre are often left unsigned at his age.

Some people have this half baked idea that teams will send offer sheets as revenge.

Not to mention that if a bottom feeder like Colorado is willing to offersheet Brodie, we laugh all the way to the bank on that one. No offense to Brodie, but he is far from a guarantee to become a star player still and multiple 1st rounders for him would be a steal.

Brodie isn't good enough to get multiple 1st compensation. Maybe a 1st and 3rd, but definitely not multiple 1sts. I really don't see him getting signed for even $3 million a year though which is 2nd round pick compensation.

I assume they are signed as we still need to ice a team in Abby.

Even a 1st and a 3rd, I would take immediately if it was a reasonable gambe that the 1st would be fairly high (as in the case with Colorado).

No to all of them. It pains me to see Howse let go, but he's done nothing since turning pro. Time to cut bait. The other three are career minor leaguers and should be looking for employment elsewhere.

I wouldn't mind holding on to Aliu for one more contract to see if he can consistently be a menace to other teams. NHL.com lists him at 6'4" and 225 lbs. He is a decent skater and can be very difficult to play against.
