2013 Calgary Flames Off Season Moves Speculation Thread
It is now the off season and aside from the draft there will be lots of speculation in regard to the trade front, front office front, UFA/RFA fronts. Let's see what fans would like to happen over the summer.

Well,
-Kipper's done, we will see the new emergence of the back end with the likes of Berra, Ramo, Macd fighting for the 2 (1a, 1b spots)
-Brossitt will join the AHL team and make a name for himself there
-Cammalleri is likely moved at the draft
-Sarich done for
-Backlund resigns for X amount of yrs
-Unknown for Cervenka, personally, it's pretty obvious this guy has skill, but the attitude of Hartley and the playing time situation I don't see him back
-Flames likely go for some big fish in July

Flames use either the Pit or StL 1st round pick on a young RFA/Young established player in an attempt to speed up the rebuilding process. My money is on Stewart or Berglund from St. Louis.

See if you can take advantage of the Flyers cap situation and perhaps get Jakub Voracek or Wayne Simmonds for pennies on the dollar.

Leaving the Flames through trade/waivers/buy-out/walking away from:
Cammy (trade)
Tanguay (trade/buy-out)
Babchuk (walk)
Begin (walk)
Jackman (trade)
Jones (walk)
Butler (trade/walk)
Carson (walk)
Potential trade/signing targets:
Forwards:
Voracek
Simmonds
Raymond
Stepan
Kreider
Bolland
Stalberg
Hossa?
Ryan?
Johansson (Wsh)
Clarckson
Horton
Filppula
Defense:
McDonagh (RFA)
Shattenkirk (most likely to go since Pietrangelo is the number one guy in St.Louis)
Hjalmerson (cap squeeze trade potential)
Alzner
Would be cool to try and pry out Voracek. Sign Raymond. Go after Hjalmerson and Alzner.
tons of options to go with and my list is but a small sample.

I speculate that players get traded. And then other players get signed and drafted. And then there is a training camp.

I hope that is specific enough.

I've not been keeping in-depth track of the Flyers, but Simmonds has been really good this year I believe. I wonder what he'd "cost".

Do not want, he's extremely sheltered in STL.

If the Flyers need to clear room they're not going to trade away their #2 and #3 scorers who are 23 and 24 years old and are signed long term at $4M. I assume they'd sooner buy out the last 2 years of Briere's deal (would only cost $3.35M in cash spread out over 4 years) and clear $6.5M instantly if they actually need some space.

I actually don't want to do a whole lot this off-season. The only thing I expect the team to do is make decisions on their free agents, both RFA and UFA. I don't see them trading for any current NHL talent unless the other team is desperate to get rid of them.
The one thing I could see is trading one of Cammalleri or Tanguay. We are overloaded at left wing and Baertschi is going to have one of the top two slots next season. Unless they somehow get a top center in return (I'm dreaming I know) we start the year with the centers being Backlund, Stajan, Horak, and Reinhart...maybe Begin if they decide to bring him back for another year.
Other than that, they're going to let the kids play and see if they can develop into bonafide NHL talent.
I really just want them to draft well with the picks they have.

Don't see much happening.
Don't see teams wanting our "mey" players.
Ufa market sucks
Probably trade one of our later 1st round picks for someone. Posters better temper their expectations on return. I've seen Voracek and Simmonds names being mentioned. No chance!!

I have a feeling that if the Bruins see a 1st or 2nd round exit that they could move Lucic and that if he is available the Flames will be in the mix.

Hopefully we get rid of some NHL caliber players and have management continuing to work hard on "selling" the team to fans.
Connor McDavid.
Strategically he's worth targeting for long term success. Seems like this will take care of itself.

So your plan is to purposely build a team that will not only contend for last place next season (2013/14) but will also contend for last place the season after that (2014/15), which is the year McDavid is draft eligible?
That is a LOT of "on purpose" sucking.
Not to mention that at that point, even if we do finish dead last, we only have a 25% chance of hanging onto 1st overall, and actually drafting McDavid.
Sounds like an awful plan to me. Hopefully Flames management has a better plan, and can execute it properly.

Cervenka managed to get the maximum performance bonuses the ELC system allows for. This is the breakdown of how he could have earned those bonuses:
http://www.capgeek.com/faq/how-do-en...racts-work.php
Quote:
Performance bonuses, or Exhibit 5 bonuses, cannot exceed $2,850,000. These bonuses are divided into two categories: Schedule A and Schedule B.
Schedule A bonuses cannot exceed $212,500 per individual bonus and $850,000 in aggregate. Following is a run down.

Schedule B bonuses cannot exceed $2 million in aggregate. Following is a run down.
Hart, Norris, Vezina, Selke, Richard Winner: $250,000
Second: $200,000
Third: $150,000
Fourth: $100,000
Fifth: $50,000
Lady Byng Winner: $150,000
Second: $100,000
Third: $50,000
Jennings Winner: $50,000 * pro-rated share if co-winner
Calder Winner: $212,500
Second: $150,000
Third: $100,000
All-Star Team 1st Team: $100,000
2nd Team: $50,000
Conn Smythe Winner: $250,000
|
I don't think Cervenka earned any of those performance bonuses.

He's the "next Sidney Crosby". You can keep hoping that management can somehow successfully execute a plan - when the track record is the complete opposite.
