I'd be lookin at the worst of those deals, where the teams might be willing to give more futures just to get rid of the deal.
Ex. Olesz for Tanguay would likely get the Flames a very high pick.

Also, I'd be focussing on the players that can play C or RW as those are the most likely to be of short-term help...as well, they'd be given ample opportunity to have a breakthrough year.

In another thread, someone mentioned Tuomo Ruutu...I'm not sure of his deal, but it was being discussed as an unfavorable contract for CAR.

Ruutu has a NMC though so easier said than done trading him to a team like Calgary

Yep. I have noticed that most of the rumoured buy out players have a NMC. Not hard to imagine that 95% ( thats being nice) would rather be bought out than come to Calgary in trade.

Chicago would be better off buying out Olesz, rather than taking in a contract of $3.5 million a year for the next 3 years, let alone giving up a high pick to make it happen.

Doesn't look like Carolina is going to have much cap trouble next season. 13 million in space and really only have to Add two or three D men and 3-4 forwards. But their top five forwards are eating a TON of money so I can see Ruutu being shopped for some space and maybe D help. Also might need a back up goalie as Ellis is UFA and Peters is nowhere near an NHL goalie.
I wonder if there was a trade involving Ruutu and maybe Viktor Rask that could be made.
Could involve Gio if the Canes wanted to move some of that money to D.

@RogMillions: Spoke to #Flames RFA TJ Brodie this am. Still no new contract from Cgy. Hasn't talked to agent in a while. Strange. #whywait #obviousdeal.

Scary. That's all I fan say.
I can't see how a deal won't get done, but Feaster should have had this done by now.

Not sure what the panic is for TJ Brodie, they haven't even talked yet. Lots of time to get him signed and I am sure the Flames are focusing on the draft and then UFA that happens within a week of each other this year.
Roger likes to create drama out of nothing sometimes, one of the things that bothers me about him.

It is just Roger being Roger. He has a common theme with his tweets.

 Posted the 6 millionth post!

Feaster and co. just working through priority shifts in organizational direction, and likely planning out the short and long-term contracts for each of the players to build a contender.
There's probably a very good reason it hasn't been done yet, especially as the team goes heads down into the most important draft for the Flames in a long time.

If they want to overpay and give us a first and third for TJ Brodie I might be intrigued.
At best they are likely a 7-10 team next year...would you trade TJ Brodie for the 16th overall pick in the draft...tough decision.

Just so that pick could turn out to be where Brodie is already currently at? Or not?
No thanks.
