Weber?

IIRC he can't be traded until the first week or so of July, so I don't see how he could factor in on a deal for the #1 pick in this draft.

My memory is a little a little foggy, but I thought the rules of matched offers is that you can't trade to the team that offered him (in an sense, holding him for ransom to the team that just put in the offer).

I think Couture is a good comp. And Toews ad Staal. Triangulate them and I think that's a pretty good picture.
Ross Maclean was on the fan this week, he's the head scout of ISS, and he said Monahan reminds him a lot like Eric Staal.

Just one of the many variables, I know, but Monahan truly sounds like captain material sometime down the road.

Again, though, one of many variables and the only tear I'd shed is of joy if we get Lindholm or Monahan.

It's hard to say if it was a bad trade or not. Rask developed on a really good Boston team with Tim Thomas to mentor him. Not really convinced Rask would of developed as good on a crappy Toronto team at the time. In fact, it might of ruined him early.

Could someone please put the Monahan interview from the oilers website up?

Quite the impressive potpourri of combine interviews on their site, actually. I feel grimy spending time in that part of the internet though. It's like watching hardcore scat or something.

Barkov interview at the combine. Nothing interesting but he mentions Kopitar and Thornton as comparisons. Thornton has been my main comparison too.

I read that he joked about it himself. He was genuinely surprised he could speak english. Maybe he just hadn't tried before.

Sorry if it's been discussed before, but I recall a lot of talk last year about Jankowski being the youngest draft eligible player in the 2012 draft. Just curious -- if he had been born 2-3 days later (making him eligible for the 2013 draft instead), do you think he gets picked sooner or later compared to 2012? Any comparables in 2013?

I reserve judgement on the pick but I maintain that it was a huge mistake for Jankowski not to go to the USHL as he had planned. Had he been born a couple days earlier, he would have gone I'm guessing and if he would have had a big year there his stock would have been very high heading into the draft.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. Are you saying that he should have gone to the USHL before his draft year? I wasn't aware that was an option for him.

No he's saying he should have gone to the USHL this past season. It's what he had originally planned but over the summer last year he decided to go straight from Stanstead to Providence College, which is a very big jump.

Taking the leap to the NCAA gave him better competition and probably will in the end speed up his development a bit (we can hope) but since he made such a big jump, he basically went from a league with no systems play to a very high level league with plays developing much faster than he was used to. This forced Providence to put him on the wing this year to get used to the jump, instead of having him at centre. If he had gone the USHL route, he would have been playing centre this past year, which you could argue would have been better for his development.

A positive note is that he will be the number 1 centre for Providence College next season, so we can really get a gauge this fall where he is at in his development and if we really have a good prospect on our hands or not. If he comes out strong and shows he can play top line minutes as a centre right out of the gate, you can expect that he will get a long look for the World Juniors.

Just watched the Lindholm interview on Oilers TV /spit.

Like his attitude. Fancies himself more of a Claude Giroux type player than Forsberg. Count me in.

Also watched Monahan's and I was equally impressed with his attitude. Flames fans will or at least should be equally happy when either of these guys put on that jersery. (if they stay the course and don't pull off a trade into the top 4)

This was my understanding of the situation as well, and I also feel jumping straight to the NCAA was the best step for him developmentally (not even factoring in the Schultz rule).

I hope to see him at center next year as well. We all knew going into this season that it would be a dramatic change for him adjusting to a very systematic organization as opposed to being the best player in his High School league. Being one of the youngest players in the NCAA probably didn't help either. I look forward to seeing him break out a bit next season, hopefully from the center position.

You know, I've been a big proponent of Lindholm for a while now, but I've been slowly coming around to Monahan. I really can't see them going wrong with either pick at this point.
