Would probably take our 6th overall and Gaudreau.

And it's a bit premature when they're about to start a 3rd round series.

It's important to remember this draft is not fixing all the Flames problems this year. The more draft picks we have the better. I think we will be picking in the top 5 for the next 2 years. If the Flames play their cards right we could have multiple first round picks next year, and possible the year after. I know it's not what people want to hear, but it's the reality this team is in after a decade of miss management. Short-term pain for long-term gain.

I'm sick of the "big splash" moves this team is always trying to make. It's time to build up a prospect pool that other GM's will drool over. Desperate trades and over paying in the free-agent market has absolutely decimated this franchise.

I watched the Heat play a few times this year and the talent pool there is not on par with other teams. When I watched the Heat play the Griffins there was a clear difference between the two teams. Gustav Nyquist, Joakim Andersson, Tomas Tatar, Landon Ferraro, Jan Mursak, Petr Mrazek are all miles ahead of any of the Flames prospects. The players that were called up played amazing for the Red Wings in the playoffs.

Flames Management has some critical decisions to make. If they're smart they'll stay the course and make the best with their 3 first-round draft picks. It's not often a team gets 3 first-round draft picks in a deep draft. I have a feeling a Barkov or Drouin will slip to #6.

Though he gets paid still whereas if he retired he wouldn't. Not that much of a favor to be honest.

Would you trade the 6th, 22nd, 30th, Tanguay,Brodie and Brouissant

for

Tavares,2014 1st and Hejda

I would in a minute
Mackinnon may be a better skater than Tavares, but he doesn't have his hands or shot. I'd much rather have Tavares.

Not close? I agree there are several questions about Johnny that make him far from a sure thing but until they prove it in the NHL no prospect is a sure thing. Johnny has been on experts lists as one of the best prospects yet to play in the NHL. He almost won the Hobey Baker as a sophmore and lead the US WJ team in goals including lighting up team Canada. If he is not a blue chipper he is damn close.

Exactly.

There are a lot of so-called "blue chippers" who don't have a fraction of the accolades Gaudreau has achieved in his two seasons at BC.

Size is the reason he's not a true blue chip player IMO. Blue chip prospects are gauranteed to be NHL players. I don't think he's a guarantee because he's so small. If he was 6' tall we would be discussing him in the same light Oilers fans discuss Hall as our franchise player. However he's going to have to get stronger and prove that he can play against big men of the NHL. Sven's a bigger guy and he looks like he has a lot of work to do so I'm going to wait and see with Gaudreau.

We all used to be pretty high on Backlund and while he's not a complete bust it just goes to show a lot of things can change from the junior to NHL translation.

Gaudreau was ranked fiftieth in thn's prospect list, so some think he is blue chip

Al lot of pundits mentioned when the Oilers brought in wonderShultz last year, that he was equivalent to adding a mid to high first round caliber player. Even though we drafted Gaudreau in the 4th, I think he will have that sort of impact when he comes.

I always considered any kids in the top 10/20 blue chip while players after very good. I think teams and scouts have noticed what he did at the WJC but I don't think you will find any scout that isn't concerned about his size. He's really small.

So you have actually seen these guys play, not just on TV to call them non-NHLers? Actually you can't have seen one of them play because you don't know who it is.

Just admit you hate everything about the Flames, their management, their prospects and current players and move on and cheer for the Oilers. Don't bother replying with the patented "Just because I disagree doesn't mean I am not a fan". I actually think you are Ryan Leslie.

Got this off HF:

http://tvasports.ca/hockey/lnh/fucal...rtley-31052013

Hartley was on a french TV talk show last night and they talked to Fucale by phone. Hartley told Fucale he was super impressed by Fucale's mental strength during the Memorial Cup. He also told Fucale that he predicts he will have a very good career in the NHL.

Hartley later said, when asked if Fucale could be a Flames pick, ''it's certain that we like him a lot'' while smiling...
People can now freak out.

Meh. I'd obviously like a player in the first round. But I suppose if it's with our Pens pick, it may not be SO bad.

Still hoping that's not the case.

Edit:
I do not see him being there when it comes to the Pittsburgh pick. Some team always take the #1 ranked goalie earlier than usual.

I fail to see why all these "experts" are dropping a consensual top 3 pick one year ago anywhere from 4-7 spots because he played on a brutal team.

78 points in 58 games and lead his team by 38 points in scoring doesn't scream of a player regressing to me.
McKeen's isn't dropping him because he played on a bad team. Did you listen to the interview? They have him at #11 because they think he's a 3rd line centre if he doesn't improve his skating. They think he can be a top two line centre if his skating improves.

Obviously they aren't as high on him as some. Scouting opinions will vary.
