You get legitimate debate about hockey, football, local events, Dinos talk and amateur sports. I've never heard them talk HS athletics but I thought it was great that they were at Nationals last year and interviewed athletes live. Plus they obviously did all their research and asked relevant questions.
On the other hand, we have Loubo at the Oval this winter talking to Christine Nesbitt and obviously not knowing a thing about speed skating. He kept gushing about what a great season she was having when a simple search would have found out that she was having a big off-year.

Hi Jock...I can't stand your takes and insights FWIW.

I agree. I like the morning show but I can't listen to the afternoon show. Its just repeat, repeat, rinse, repeat, recycle. Terrible radio.
I like hockey central at noon

Poor Rome. Now there's a guy who is 'post apex'. Man was his show hilarious back in the oughts. Nowadays, I can't even listen for more than a segment.

I think the morning show has come a very long way. Even though I love the nba and dislike the fact it is never discussed on the fan (outside Rome) I love their fake update it is hilarious. Also the fake Greg Sherman interview today had me laughing out loud at my desk this morning
I really like Ryan Leslie compared to Bryn in the afternoon as well but that show still struggles a bit

The bits on the morning show are the worst. Segments like 20 questions, and ask Rhett are fine, and can be good. But these forced contrived bits are just painful. Sometimes I feel so embarrassed for them that I have to change the station. Just awful.

nothing is worse that Rome. Though I will agree that the general quality of the Fan keeps dropping.

When I was listening to HC at noon during I believe the first or second week, I heard a voice that was somewhat familiar, talking about the Flames. I couldn't place it until they actually said his name. It was Cammellari.
I think that is part of what is missing. Aside from a few dressing room ambushes, 960 really doesn't like to interview hockey players that much. Usually analysts.
But then again with some of these goombas asking the questions, I am not surprised. I hate hockey interviews where the smartest or toughest question the guys bother to ask just sets them up for a generic response 'oh, we need to play better'.

I thought that bit was hilarious! As soon as I heard Sherman talking I thought to myself that it sounded just like Milton from office space. Then moving the desk and the swingline stapler....
I was getting annoyed with Rhett being obnoxious; he's been slowly getting worse lately and it has to stop.
Slava, the bits are funny, you just don't "get it"

Pretty sick of all this Rome bashing,
the Jungle is a fun and fairly comprehensive sports talk show.
many posters over the course of this thread have admitted that they flat out don't enjoy sports that aren't hockey, and also don't care for hockey talk that's not flames related.
Here's the other thing we're missing here, the show can be hilarious.
aside from rome there's nothing funny on the fan. Walker and boomer and their song parodies? that's the comic relief? ask rhett is the only legit funny thing i can think of on the station aside from rome.
BTW if you're looking for your jungle fix, please visit stucknut, the site is very comprehensive, funny as hell, and is a great time waster.

I think what i'm supposed to say is thank you, i'm out.

From my perspective, 20% of the time, Rome has someone worth listening to, but honestly there are times when he gets illiterate unintelligable jocks and I cannot stand to listen to them.
Rome's ego is bigger than the city of Rome and I find the show juvenile and unintersting.
By comparison the morning and afternoon shows on Fan960 seem way less proffesional, but have way more of the type of stuff I want to hear - including insites Eric D, Elliot F etc.
Rome or no Rome doesn't bother me, and having hockey talk (even Kipper and Maclean) is better than some random basketball or baseball jock.

I started listening to the morning show again a few months back and will catch it a few times a week and it is actually really good IMO. Andrew Walker carries the show and is great at poking fun at himself and a good sport with some funny segments. With Boomer and Warrener it makes for a good morning show. When one is missing it isn't quite the same but together they are actually really good and a big improvement on Mike Richards. Jim Rome to me is like listening to Mike Richards and feels too forced and the material is way past old. The more the Fan gets rid or scales back on the obnoxious personalities and commercials the more likely I am to ..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sRd00jqV4g There has to be good spirit in it ...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Tq-UsaRchI I have no problem with Hockey Central vs Rome. It is an easy choice and I would think more and more markets are in the process of either scaling back on Rome or getting rid of him altogether. He has had a bad run.....Besides....it is Hockey we are talkingbout

If the criteria is "hilarious", then The Sklar Bros and Jay Mohr do sports talk way better than Rome.

I am the opposite. Even though Bryn was nothing to brag about I can not stand listening to Ryan Leslie. His constant whining about things is brutal, so bad that I actually quit listening to 960 in the afternoons.

Jim Rome is junk. Period. I will listen for extended periods, 45 minutes plus craving for something intelligent from him or his guests. I am a fan of all sports but a 5 minutes segment of a random athlete and 2 hours and 55 minutes of him saying "uhhh... uhhh ..." and trying to come up with something intelligent to say while sounding like the cockiest SOB in the sporting media just makes me shake my head. I gave him a solid week, every morning for almost an hour to try and see the appeal he has on people.. I just dont get it. Then listening to his followers on the radio, it all starts to make sense. They come across as some of the most uneducated, backyard barn type sports fan that ive ever heard... you know, Canucks fans.
If there was ever a petition to ban Rome or a push to remove him from anything media related, I would be onboard completely. He is just lame, boring and absolutely terrible at delivering any sort of fact.

It's surprising how tunnel-visioned and closed-minded people are in Calgary. Like open your eyes and realize that there is a world beyond Calgary, Hockey, and Canada.
I love every sport. NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB, College, MMA......and that's why I love Jim Rome...simply the best radio show on Fan 960 for all-sports fan.
Hockey is great but listening to same news and opinions makes me want to smash my head against my car window. Pat Steinberg is worst for repeating opinions.

Man calm down.
A ton of fans in Calgary are fans of all sports.
But that doesn't mean it is good business for the Fan960 to talk anything but hockey.
Read through this thread and there are a ton of people who are interested in other sports.

And it's also not a lack of trying.
Over the past five years, they've tried to infuse the lineup with segments about non-hockey, but they just don't do well.
That's why there's only ten minutes a week dedicated solely to golf, a short business of sports segment and why there's no longer a Chevy and Nasty show. The first two are sponsored and that's the main reason they are on the air.

I love hockey, but I don't need it all day on the radio. Rome provides a great break to talk about other sports. Another hour of my life having to listen to the likes of Millard, Kypreos and Maclean is ridiculous, all three of these guys couldn't manage a AAA midget team. Really disappointed stooped this low to listen to these guys
|
I agree. I can only listen to so much hockey talk and especially when the Flames are not even involved any more.
I turn it off for most of the day anyway, but especially now between noon and 1 pm.
