I guess when you listen to a guy for years even though he is constantly referencing the people he works with, you still get a sense that it is mostly a one man show, which obviously it isn't. Or at least I do.
He was the main producer, and from what I've read online he had a big hand in the overall direction of the show. At some point it sounds like him and Rome started to disagree on the focus of the show - coinciding with the arrival of KB.

There's stuff online about why he left, and the fact that a lot of the old-school great callers - now call into TR's podcast. They even have their own version of the smack off.

I guess Rome is OK for some people - but not for me.

Seriously, I hear his voice and it grates on me - maybe it's the endless repetition of the same puerile and simplistic point ten or twelve times in the same number of minutes (or less!). Maybe it's the lack of inventiveness or sucking-up in his interviews. Maybe I just really don't care for most of the sports he waxes poetic about. One way or another, for me, less Rome is good.

As for the Fan 960 in general, mostly I listen while driving. The guest segments are easily the best - Friedman, Duhatscheck, Loubo, the odd guest reporter from "wherever" etc.

The regular air guys, morning or afternoon, need to find new material. The morning guys could stop trying to make me laugh (except for Ask Rhett which is kinda fun). Like 20 Questions which is OK. The recycled talk? Meh.

It's a bit worse in the afternoon.....a longer time slot and even less to cover. They need more interviews, less recycling. Get a female voice or three on the radio, too. Vary the subject matter - I like "the business of sports" for instance. Maybe get a series with one of the trainers in pro sports.

I like the Fan, but it needs some refreshing and some work.

Getting rid of any of Rome is a good start. Now they have to "add".

I like Rome, but I can see why other people might not like his brand of humour. It is repetitive, juvenile, and he has a lot of dead air on his show. But some of his takes are pretty funny. I never liked his clones segments, but I do enjoy his boxing interviews.

I don't get a chance to listen to his show much anymore, so I have no idea how the show is like with Travis Rogers leaving.

I know that, but when he is on, he is still largely drowned out by Kypreos/Maclean, although he is much better of a host than Millar. I'd be into it if he had his own show though, which is what I was asking about.

I really like the morning show with Boomer, Rhett, and Walker. I think the funniest parts are the unintentional stuff, like Rhett's "writing is in the pudding" comment and the reaction from Boomer and Walker.

The morning show is good when Boomer is just talking sports and not trying to be funny.

I've liked 960's choice of retired hockey player "experts" - Warrener in the morning show and Mike Rogers during the game broadcasts. Both provide useful insights that are often above the level of the comments we get from ex-players on national television.

They should replace Hockey Central with a D'Arcy and Grant daily podcast.

I'm not joking, it would be better.

I respect QR 77 Sports Talk for covering local and amateur sports, but be honest - when they talk about curling, high school track and field, or what's going on at the Oval, I bet you all change the station. We want NHL talk. Not Stamps talk in January.

Rome's show likely isn't cheap, relatively speaking.
I don't think they have talked about the Leafs all week at noon, but I can't say I've heard every minute. That might change once the playoffs are over.

I used to set my alarm clock to 960 radio and I would always wake up hungover on Saturday's listening to that clown. It would be alright and actually add something meaningful to local radio content if he would just talk about and interview Olympic athletes without his own self-promote motivational crap and opinions. I realize he pays for the radio spot for the sole purpose of pontificating about life, but that's exactly what makes it painful to listen to.

I don't think anyone wants that.

But I think Kirsch is burying his head in the sand if he doesn't think the appetite is significant for legitimate NFL talk right now.

I'm not even a huge NFL fan, but I can also tell there is unaddressed appetite for NFL talk. I think that may change as the season gets closer though.

I don't understand why they repeat interviews from the morning shows in the afternoon. Makes no sense considering they have the same previous audio on their website. Also, WAAAAAAY too many commercials-Sometimes 15 minutes straight.

Marek and Wysh (editor of Puck Daddy) do a daily podcast/show where they chat the daily hockey topics, trash talk various things, Marek waxes nostalgic about the WHA and they have guests.

For example, here as a link to today's show: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...175342894.html

I would like to see Rome taken off the air. Maybe open the phone lines instead for those two hours, it encourages discussion. Personally i always find open phone lines interesting, funny and sometimes insightful.

I find Boomer can stall a funny conversation. Wierd rap and goat noises doesn't entertain me.

More nfl talk with a bit of pro line in there would nice.

Walker's the best morning guy imo.

Yet everyone is clamoring for more hockey talk in August??? That's what I mean about most people being hockey fans rather than sports fans.

I listen to 770 all the time now and really appreciate Jock's takes and insight. In the span of 2.5 hours I learn more about what's going on than a whole day on 960.

You get legitimate debate about hockey, football, local events, Dinos talk and amateur sports. I've never heard them talk HS athletics but I thought it was great that they were at Nationals last year and interviewed athletes live. Plus they obviously did all their research and asked relevant questions.

On the other hand, we have Loubo at the Oval this winter talking to Christine Nesbitt and obviously not knowing a thing about speed skating. He kept gushing about what a great season she was having when a simple search would have found out that she was having a big off-year.

Talk about Dino's, amateur sports and HS athletics sounds his awful.

Who cares what kind if season Christine Neabitt is having?

And anything out of Jock Wilson's mouth is the opposite of insight.
