I don't fire a coach with this history over the last two years:

The 54-year-old Tortorella got the Rangers back into the playoffs in this lockout-shortened season, and New York outlasted Washington in seven games in the first round of the playoffs before being knocked out by Boston.

Glen Sather is just such a garbage GM.
 They fired the wrong guy.

It was a mistake to move Gaborik even if the guys who came back played well. He is a game-breaker and a legit scoring option who net 41 last year. Now Nash is all alone just like in Columbus. Also a bad move letting Prust go.
In the end, I don't see how organizations can make big decisions after a shortened season. Rangers were well-built and much like Sutter in 09-10, a couple of very short-sighted months will be their undoing.

No different than in Vancouver. AV was a good if not great coach in my eyes, while Gillis is turd of a GM.

Rick Nash coach killer strikes again. One of the most overrated players in the NHL by far.
New York screwed up by trading for him and depleting depth.

I don't know about the coach killer part but I agree he is one of the most overrated players in recent memory.

Gaborik scored 40+ goals in 2/4 years on a NY Rangers team that struggles at the best of times to score and IMO it seems like once they picked up Nash it was a matter of time until they had to move Gaborik. Not sure if that's a great swap as Nash has only scored 40 goals once since 2003/2004 and really hasn't been a catalyst for winning in his career.

Nash is definitely overrated, but I thought he played pretty well these playoffs except for that critical part of the puck actually crossing the line.
And yes, I know his role is to score goals, but he looked engaged and dangerous often. More than you can say for Richards.

This could make for an interesting trend. Retired superstars becoming coaches. I think Lemieux did it right. Buy the team.

That'd be incredibly stupid. He has zero coaching experience at any level.

Not surprised he was fired, was pretty surprised he was hired in the first place. He comes off as arrogant and condescending. Not surprised he has trouble getting veterans to play for him.

I've heard the exact opposite about Torts. He cares deeply about his players. It's a little Jekyll and Hyde with him in regards to how he is towards the media and his players.
