It's hard out there for a coach:

Josh Rimer@JoshRimerHockey1m

For those scoring at home that's 24 NHL Coaching changes in last two NHL Seasons.

No, but it is Tortorella's fault that his style is abrasive and losing a locker room is inevitable. Coaches of his style can get great results in the short term, but they also have short lifespans. He will pop back up with a new team, however.

Apparently Gillis isn't a fan of Torts:
Jason Botchford ‏@botchford 31s Tortorella fired. Gillis loathed the way the rangers played. Torts team couldn't score. You figure it out

And sounds like Ruff would take the job:
John Vogl ‏@BuffNewsVogl 6m
The Rangers have fired John Tortorella. From what I've been told about Lindy Ruff's job wish list, this is a place he'd want to go.

They could do a lot worse. While he's too much of a sideshow with the media he doest get a lot out of his players and seems to be able to get his teams to play a disciplined style of hockey. I don't disagree with the Rangers letting him go as it sounds like a change was needed in the dressing room but the man is a good coach. Anyone thinks that the Rangers roster is going to turn into gold with a new coach should probably take a better look at what's really there as they have a few good players and a lot of very average players and on paper are nowhere close to the Bruins or Penguins.

When does someone wipe the smirk off Sather's face by holding him responsible for the Rangers' long-term under-achievement despite carte blanche finances?

It's the Rangers so I imagine they'll have their pick of whomever they want... Ruff would be my guess (I'd hire Vigneault if I were they but I ain't they).

The only two coaches that advanced past the first round the last two years were Sutter and Tortorella, the guy does get results even if his style of play or coaching isn't the greatest. He seems to be the type of coach that has a short shelf life though, as he ends up pissing off his star players after a few years.

Although the Rangers weren't that great of team, and he was saddled with a few bad contracts as said before. Really making it to the second round this year, and losing to the Bruins was a good season for them. I see them doing worse next year unless some major roster moves are made.

Betting AV gets hired right quick by the Rangers.

This has a whole lot more to do with Brad Richards status than actual results.

A perfect example of how its easier to fire one coach than move a bunch of (or in this case even one) player.

Richards will get a new lease on life next year, Ruff (my guess) gets a clean slate to start with, and the Rangers dont pay 24 million bucks to a guy that isnt playing for them.

My guess anyhow.

If they were smart they would offer him $$$. His approach would probably be a nice change of pace for Rangers players compared to years of Torts grinding them.

Which is why I think the Rangers pass on Ruff.

I thought Ruff and Nill were best buds and he should be hired pretty quick in Dallas anyways.

Probably. IMO two years into that deal is way too early to start talking buyout and it's clear the coach and player could no longer co-exist. Richards may play better in a less restrictive system which is why I think AV would be good for them as he seemed to be well liked overall by his players and let the Sedins do their thing rather than clamp them down.

Ya I think it would be a huge change of pace for next year

he always lets his vets 'run the room' and the Rangers have a veteran laden team

would open up the offense as well which Richards will like, I think they go back to being a contender with AV

Tell us how you really feel Brooksie:

Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie5m
Any media outlet that would hire John Tortorella should be ashamed.

Ruff has already had an interview with Dallas. Nill is doing his due diligence and also interviewing AV and Desjardins. Also read that Ruff was coming in for a 2nd interview with Dallas.

Ruff's coaching style is very simmilar to Torts without the media circus. Not sure why the Rangers would want him?

Maybe in a year we can get both Burke and Torts in Calgary!

That would be interesting... likely an improvement, but interesting to say the least.
