Totally Agree! How does Glen Sather still have a job after years of brutal contracts and free agent busts! You would think they would can Sather by now and move Messier into that role..
Glen Sather secretly must own the team..

The product on the ice would likely be better and there would be no shortage of juicy quotes in the media but it would be a lot to take for the average fan.

Hasn't this been said now about a few gm's this year?
beiing a gm must be great when firing the coach buys you another couple of years before your bosses start looking at you.

Not unexpected in the least.
Losing Staal for a good chunk of the season and playoffs hurt. But for a team as stacked on offence as the Rangers were they sure had trouble scoring at times.
Tried to shake things up with the Gaborik trade and things seemed to be looking better. But same result in the end.
Definitely time for a change.

No thanks to having Torts as a flames coach going forward. I would have liked him coaching the team for the last 2 years. At least he would have had the balls to bench all our floaters. Granted i am not sure who would have been left to play the 3rd period in a lot of games.

Sather makes horrible signings, but overall he's put together a pretty nice team there. It's got some top end talent, some heart guys, a good defense and a world class goalie. They should be better than what Tortorella got out of them.

I would want the Flames to hire Tortorella just to have him light up Eric Francis a few times.

Because he somehow finds a way to make those brutal contracts and free agent busts go away.

I would have been mad if I was Lundqvist as well. I don't think Tortorella coached them properly this year. Way too much emphasis on defense and hardly any on offense. Vigneault would be a good fit here but I know Dallas is interested in him as well.

You know that just may be worth it even if it doesn't turn around results on the ice.

The Flames historically don't make the necessary changes until it's way too late and the damage has already been done. I bet we are stuck with Feaster and Hartley for a little while yet.

Lundqvist needs to be careful here. If the Rags hire Vigneault there's always the possibility he turns into 7undqvist.
I think the Rags will end up hiring AV anyway though.

Playing a grinding style game when you have primarily, highly skilled superstars like Nash and Richards and at one time Gaborik doesnt seem like a good fit.

This was the fifth season that Tortarella has coached the team, and fourth full season. History indicates that he's past the point of being able to win a cup with this group. So it is time to make a change if they want to win a Stanley Cup.

Seeing how Tortorella handles punks like Avery, I can't imagine that he would want to go to a team full of unsavoury characters like the Canucks.

Although the Rangers weren't that great of team, and he was saddled with a few bad contracts as said before. Really making it to the second round this year, and losing to the Bruins was a good season for them. I see them doing worse next year unless some major roster moves are made.
|
Yeah, I really don't think this firing had anything to do with results. This had more to do with morale and clashing personalities. Torts strikes me as a great technical coach, but a motivator with a short shelf life. A Cup contender in the latter part of their window might do well to pick him up.

And Brooks is upset that Tortorella kicked mud all over his pretty pink dress. Man up and own your $41t, Larry.
