NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly and representatives of the buyers group have four meetings on tap with Mayor Jerry Weiers, interim City Manager Dick Bowers and then with two groups of three city council members, which is a strategy that sidesteps the state's Open Meetings law.

Mostly bugging, but what happens if city council says no to the potential owners' lowest offer for "management fees"?
If the NHL's plan is to move the team before next season if no buyer steps up, they might not have until June 25 before the team is moved.
However, I'm sure that the NHL has been taking to council and the potential owners about any such cut off date if any exists.

I want a team in Quebec and maybe another in the GTA, but I will be happy if it isn't at the expense of the Coyotes. Phoenix could be a good market if it gets managed correctly and I am just sick of the whole issue. As long as it is over soon, I will be happy no matter what the resolution.

The next step in #Coyotes ownership process is for acting city mgr Dick Bowers & RSE to begin talks on what an arena lease would look like.

COG:
"The City Council will not be making a decision regarding the Coyotes until all pertinent information has been collected and reviewed and all the available options have been thoroughly studied. This includes several bids the city is expected to receive this Friday (May 31) from qualified venue managers interested in operating the city owned Jobing.com Arena. Glendale is committed to moving forward on a plan that is in the best interests of our city and our citizens."
Daly:
"We had a number of constructive meetings today with the Mayor, various members of the City Council and the acting City Manager. Everyone involved in today's discussions shares the desire and ultimate objective of transitioning the ownership of the Coyotes and safeguarding the franchise's long-term future in Glendale. We expect that representatives from the Renaissance group will begin meeting with the City to see if a mutually agreeable lease arrangement can be forged expeditiously. We will have no further comment pending completion of that process."

The city seems to be taking a much more intelligent approach than it has in the past, which may actually allow a deal to get done. The previous regime seemed way too willing to approve things that could never be fulfilled, or just generally act like a bunch of fools. Maybe with a couple of groups who want to make a deal that actually has the potential to succeed we'll see some progress.

Councilman Manny Martinez said that both sides want to make a deal work but that all the discussions Tuesday were in general terms. He’s interested in specifics.
“Let’s put it this way: They’re successful businessmen who are not out to lose money,” he said.
There may be options for the team and the city to tap into new revenue streams to find additional money beyond the $6million the city has budgeted for an arena manager, he said.
Renaissance’s principals said they want a lease, plus a management package that would have the city pay Renaissance to operate the arena, according to city officials.
City officials are open to the concept but want to know how much Renaissance’s principals want to collect for the service.
Councilman Ian Hugh said he came away from the meetings convinced that the hockey executives truly want the team to remain in Arizona.
“They’re trying to pull it off,” Hugh said. “I’d love to have an anchor tenant playing in the arena. The rest of it — they’re going to have to figure it out.”
Hugh, like other council members, said he also would like to broaden the discussion beyond just the arena-management fee. He also would like a better idea of how much the team brings to the city through sales-tax revenue and fees.

We should have a special CP event for the 2nd anniversary of this thread starting, which, if I am not mistaken, is sometime soon. Maybe it should be a costume party where you have to dress up as one of the Coyote's bidders, or Glendale city councilpersons, or NHL execs, or any one of the myriad people involved in this ongoing dramedy.

It would be ironic if, now that the city is looking at things more deliberately, the league finally got tired and relocated the team before the process was complete. I'm not sure the owners would be impressed if they agreed to let this drag into next season on the promise of a resolution that may fall through.

Yeah, I agree. They wouldn't have made the re-alignment the way they did if the Coyotes were moving. It seems Gary has made this his pet project that goes beyond logic.

I don't think this is all Gary's idea. I think LA, ANA, SJ and DAL, really want to have a team in PHO.

League wise it's better for Phoenix to have a team than for Quebec. If you can have them stay put, then to get Quebec they'll have to be an expansion team which would come with nice fees for the owners.

Phoenix Coyotes $170 Million Sale To Be Partially Funded By NHL
http://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozan...funded-by-nhl/
The prospective buyers of the Phoenix Coyotes could be getting a sweet deal.
A source close to the negotiations, who traded candor for anonymity, revealed the purchase price as $170 million. The capital structure would consist of RS&E putting in $45 million of equity, Fortress Investment Group lending $120 million (to be repaid by the fee Glendale taxpayers are going to pay the team to run the arena), and an $85 million loan from the NHL.
The $80 million the total capital investment ($250 million) exceeds the enterprise value of the purchase ($170 million) will be used as working capital. In other words, no capital calls even if the team loses a lot of money over the next few years. In addition, the NHL is promising the new owners that they will get the maximum amount of revenue from the league’s revenue-sharing system.

The NHL's desperation to keep this team in Phoenix is stunning. It's as if the day the Coyotes moved a comet would collide into the planet and this is in fact am effort to save humanity.

That's part of the problem as I see it. If they do stay we go through this again in 5-12 years. It hasn't worked. It won't work. And any 'resolution' now that keeps them in Phoenix is just delaying the inevitable.
Look what happened when they went back to Atlanta.
Move em and be done with it.
