Mayor Labeaume will not go to Russia. His journey is officially canceled, announced his press secretary, Paul-Christian Nolin.
"With the health of the mayor, it's best to stay," said Nolin.
Of course Nordiques fans think he is staying in Quebec, because something is imminent.

Bettman hopes Coyotes don’t move in 2013
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/b...-move-in-2013/
[The sale is ] complicated by the outside conjecture — and the NHL commissioner couldn’t help but notice the reports earlier this week that he has been in negotiations to move the Coyotes to Quebec City (something he says isn’t true).
“It doesn’t help because it creates dynamics, it creates expectations, there’s political processes, it gets fans either excited or upset depending on the report,” Bettman said Wednesday night during a sitdown between periods of the Penguins-Senators game.
“None of it is constructive. We’ve maintained all along that when we have something to say definitive we’ll say it. Until that point, anything else is a distraction.”

If Gary's official line is that he's "hoping that they don't move in 2013", negotiations to move the team must be well underway.

David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod 59s Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers confirms to the Arizona Republic the NHL will present an ownership deal/offer for the Coyotes early next week.

Multiple sources confirmed to FOX Sports Arizona on Friday that the NHL has reached an agreement with Renaissance Sports and Entertainment (RSE) to sell the Coyotes.
The next step to complete the deal is for NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, deputy commissioner Bill Daly and RSE heads George Gosbee and Anthony LeBlanc to meet with city officials on Tuesday in an attempt to hammer out a deal.

I bet Tippett will re-sign. He probably has a good relationship with Maloney and knows he'll have job security. If he's worried about having to move, all Maloney needs is an out-clause that allows him to explore other options if the team leaves Phoenix.

The reason it's not Monday is because of Memorial Day in the states.

Just saw on the CBC news ticker that the Coyotes were sold to a Canadian led group, but that they are to remain in Phoenix. Is that true?
edit:
Contingent on a lease agreement I guess:

Yes, that's confirmed.
Glendale mayor said to not even come to council without an approved deal in principal for the sale.

Glenn Healy (CBC Hotstove)- I'm so sick of Phoenix . . . 1,481 days . . . PHO makes in mid-20s for hockey related revenue. What the players should know . . . in Quebec, they would make $300 M more over term of this CBA.

One of the smartest things I have ever heard Healy say. I don't know about you guys, but hearing about Phoenix loosing the team is getting so old. Like when Toronto was gonna trade their superstar Kaberle for like 2 years and it was on the blogs every single freakin day. It's Phoenix ! who cares ! I'm sure half of the Phoenix population doesn't. They probably didn't even know there was a lockout- what a terrible place to have an NHL franchise, what's next ? New Mexico ?

Somebody should tell Healy that it works out to $30M per year, $15M for the players, $500K per team for salaries, $20K per player (25 man roster). $30M per year in increase HRR is really nothing. If the NHL owners group sees the possibility of building the market with proper ownership and marketing (not saying they can but the owners perception may be that they will) the $30M is nothing. Most of these owners won't bend over for $500K per team.
The owners probably see an expansion fee of $100M for a new team in Quebec PLUS the increased revenue being a lot more valuable than abandoning a possible potential growing market.
