Sorry.
I don't think anyone is certain, but again I am pointing out that ignoring the fact the Gawker broke it, a news outlet with no known bone to pick with Ford, and instead focusing on the Star is a disservice to how news content is delivered nowadays.

Gawker is more believable because they have no prior history against Ford or his administration, and discounting them because they don't print their version of the news (hey where did you read the Star report, I bet it was online) is archaic.

I don't get what the point would be of a hoax, which is why I'm reasonably certain the recording is real. If it's fake, what exactly are they selling? Nobody forks over a few hundred grand for that without verifying it first, so if there is a scam being played, it's a remarkably stupid one.

It also passes the plausibility test. Does anyone really find it unbelievable that Rob Ford might smoke crack? He's obviously not big on self-control, or on thinking thru the consequences of his actions. The guy just has no credibility, which he has brought upon himself.

The Star and the Gawker are not putting out their own money, but they sure are running with a story that is probably making them a lot of money, that's where I find my break in believability.

I think its a long way from drinking and smoking a spliff to smoking crack, the social stigma is hugely different as is the effects on a person.

To me its the same type of argument that Ralph was an alcoholic so he's probably more then likely to smoke crack because he lacks impulse control.

Just because a person is an idiotic buffoon who has a apparent drinking problem doesn't mean that he's smokin rock.

Again though, what is the percentage for these drug dealers in claiming he does, and that they have a video of it, if that's not true? It's not just that Ford is the kind of guy where this kind of rumour is believable, but that he's that kind of guy *and* that someone apparently has evidence of him sucking back rock.

It's Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is likely to the true one. Some elaborate conspiracy by multiple, independent news sources in with Somali drug dealers, versus a guy who routinely lies about his misdeeds doing yet one more stupid thing. Hmm...

I'm looking at the burden of proof to completely destroy someones personal and professional life here.

I don't believe that Occum's razor applies in all situations. I believe that Occum's razor only applies in the case of actual evidence and not hearsay.

I'm not defending Ford necessarily, I am entirely skepical about some of the things in the process that I've outlined above.

Show me the tape and I'll accept the results

Is it possible to be a casual crack user? How about an overweight crackhead?

Ford blaming The Star was the tipping point for me. How he thinks people don't realize they weren't the first to report the story is beyond me. Gawker making up a story about a crack-smoking mayor of a city they don't care about is somehow less believable than Ford actually doing it.

I don't think you can be a casual crack user but I've known one overweight crackhead.

It's definatly possible to be an overweight crack head. The one's who loose all their weight spend all their cash on crack instead of food, if you have lots of money you can buy both. I've known a few people in t.o who were crack heads and overweight.

'Well Mark I'm sorry to say the time has come for me to let you go over this video tape debacle that you should have seen coming and prevented'

Jay Leno also mentioned Ford on Monday’s Tonight Show, joking that if the allegations are true, he’d still be qualified to be the mayor of Washington, D.C.
Good ol' Jay. Keep snatching that incredibly dated, low-hanging fruit, buddy. God, he sucks.

Catch his joke before that?

"To be fair to the mayor... there isn't much to do in Toronto"

ooooo! Edgy!

I'm not a huge Toronto fan but what a weak lame joke.

I have no problem being characterized as wanting more verification than the word and cell phone video of a crack dealer.
