Where does Iginla play next year?

Whenever I see Iggy play I see shades of Shanahan in his later years; a PP specialist for a solid team. I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit offered him a contract.

So for all the people saying he resigns in Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh buys out Fluery or trades him for a 3rd round pick leaving Volkun and Hartzell as their goalies. They gain 4M in cap room.

They give that to Iginla.

4 more players and 7.8 M of cap space...... 3M for Dupuis ( Morrow and Doug Murray, go elsewhere) and 3 players for 4.8M.


Their roster begins to look a lot like Tampa Bays after their Cup win. .... when they kept St.L, Richards, Lecavilier and Boyle and let Khabullin go and went with Graehme and 37 year old Sean Burke in goal.

No more SC and two playoff series loses in the next 5 seasons.

Tough call. It's really difficult to gauge his value on the market. 5 on 5 he's not really a first line player anymore but he can add a lot to a power play. I'm sure there will be a team or two that offers him in the neighbourhood of $5-6 million but have a hard time seeing him put up numbers that equate to a $5 million player especially considering he's never going to get the minutes he got in Calgary on a good team. If the Canucks clean up some salary I can see them putting in an offer in hopes he can add what ever has been missing with that club before the door completely shuts. He does live in BC in the summer after all. Not really sure if the Penguins bring him back seeing as he hasn't really clicked with either Crosby or Malkin and they are going to be tight up against the cap. The Kings look like a good fit but I don't know where they fit in his salary if he's expecting $4+ million. If it all comes down to money it could be a team totally out of left field. Will definitely be interesting come July 1st.

I don't see him going to Detroit. Babcock didn't seem to like his game during the Olympics. My guess would be the Rangers, everyone's favourite semi retirement home or maybe Toronto.

Ottawa is the logical fit for Iggy. But I think he goes somewhere on the pacific coast line.

He has a place near Vernon, BC where he stays for most of the summer. Kobesew and Ference are also by where he is.

Yup... having a goalie is more important to Pittsburg then Iginla at the moment.

Agree they could do that kind of cap management to keep Iginla, and I suspect they will. But I don't agree with the Tampa Bay analogy. Khabibulin was dumped right after being an outstanding contributor to a Cup win, while it's been a couple of years since Fleury has shown he's a solid, consistent playoff goalie. It's starting to look like Pittsburgh has no confidence in Fleury anyway, so it wouldn't be the same as TB dumping Khabibulin.

The wrong people did yes. He spends most of the summer in the Kelowna area at his lakeside property.

I would expect that if he wins the cup, he just might hang them up. He'll have won everything that can be won.

If he doesn't the list becomes smaller. He'll go to LA or Boston or the Hawks if they can make room for him.

That is why he lost me as a fan when he signed his last contract as a Flame. He said he would have taken less but did not want to offend his union brothers...

Ummm he took the same amount. Not more and not less and relative to the cap at the time it was a home team discount, if he got free agency he would have gotten a ridiculous contract.
