Assuming the Blues pick can drop down to #21 is there a possibility for a trade with the Canadiens?

#21 and #29 (assuming Hawks beat Penguins)
for #24, #34, #36, #57.
Extra two picks.

#6 - Lindholm / Monahan
#24 - Zykov / Mantha
#34 - Mueller / Morin
#36 - Gauthier / Petan
#57 - De La Rose / Lodge / Roy
#67 - Cammarata / Heatherington
Montreal is 23 - 25 right now.

If both Pittsburgh and Chicago win this round, Montreal picks 25
If one loses this round, Montreal picks 24
If both lose, 23rd.

I cannot believe Todd Button is still employed. I think the odds of randomly selecting names out of a hat would have a better NHL production rate than Flames draftees under Button's watch.

Yeah, I don't like the sounds of that either.

Some people are saying Nichushkin would be in the top 3 if he weren't Russian... if the Flames do their homework on this kid its' not the risk it has been made out to be.

I guess I heard a different interview. Didn't hear a word about the Flames targeting a goalie

I hope the Flames study harder than they did on Crevenka playing center.

I guess you are right in saying they were not targeting a goalie but Button didn't specifically say they were targeting anything but that there were "high end goalies" in the 1st round.

Draft day nightmare:

Nichushkin @ 6
Trade 22nd for two 2nd rounders
Eric Comrie @ 29

You can add "trade for an established player that adds grit or toughness" to he list.

Well, CP is going to be a blast on draft day. And almost a guarantee that there will be a good portion of posters calling for someones head on a platter, I feel it.

Or maybe he has the Russian #5 and someone like Nurse at #6.

doubt he's bankign on a trade and gets caught with his pants down being stuck at #6... though i guess thats possible...

Unfortunately, that's almost guaranteed.

I was really hoping for a new management staff for this draft. Hopefully the new guys will know to take Ekblad next year.

Okay, lets re-phrase then. Plan A is to trade up and get the guy they want.

Plan B is to stay at 6 and take BPA.

Either way, there could be some very upset fans draft day. Especially if Nichushkin is taken @6 over Lindholm or Monahan.

He said the goalie crop is elite as well.

Every other scouting report I've read has said that the crop of goalies in this draft is average to below-average.

I'm very worried.

I actually don't mind taking Nichushkin at all if the Flames do their due diligence. Sounds to me like the interview is the most important part of the selection process. If they feel that after the interview he could be the second coming of Pavel Bure, Pavel Datsyuk or even Alexander Ovechkin AND he's willing to play for the Flames then I would be all over it.

I also don't mind taking a goalie with a later first round pick if he's the best player available at that spot.

John Weisbrod has stated in the past that he is not in favour of drafting goaltenders in the 1st round. I would not be all that worried.

Either way drafting a Fucale type goaltender at 29/30 is not terrible, and certainly won't be the the end of the world. He is a very good prospect in his own right and could very well be deemed as the best player available at that position.

I wouldn't mind Nichushkin at all at #6. I hope he is there.

6'4", great skating, plays all forward positions, plays physical, elite shot...yeah, let's just skip him.

He closest comparable apparently is Malkin. I don't see a problem. Russian or not, this team needs an influx of both skill AND size. This team is too small, and it really needs franchise players more than anything else. Here is a player that adds both dimensions. Sign me up!

Maybe he was trying to troll all the other teams scouts that were undoubtedly listening intently.
