All this build up with Chang and the other Dean and then nothing at all this episode. Also, Chang forgave them all with one scene (last episode)?
Come on.
This show should really just end. All the writers are gone, the new showrunners suck, Jeff isn't even in school anymore and Chevy Chase quit. Not sure where they can go.
Season 4 finale aired this evening. Personally, it was my favourite episode of the season.
Did anyone see the six seasons and a movie that was written in one of the scenes?
They had a lot of messages. There was another one thanking fans and mentioning the hiatus they were put on.
I think the writers felt they were going to get 20+ episodes, but were handed 13. There were story lines added and dropped all over the place. As mentioned in the last post, the City College arc seemed to be dropped within the span of 2 minutes, despite sporadic build up. It seems really difficult to judge what exactly the issue was, but there was a disconnect somewhere.
There was a few deleted lines which I think probably would have put the show in a perfect finale mode:
Quote:
Jeff: Plus, if I stay in town, I can pop by whenever I want. You know, just to settle any group arguments about which one of you misses me the most.
Abed: Jeff, I can see your value now.
I'd be fine if they bring the show back again if they haven't written themselves into a corner yet (they seemed keen on leaving a couple loopholes in case they somehow do get renewed in regards to Jeff. They left it easy to write out Chevy Chase...who, in all honestly, probably won't be missed as a character since they write him out so frequently already). The show was finally getting back to normal, or as normal as this show gets, during the back half of the season (~6 episodes) and I'd be more than happy to see the show come back. The humour isn't as consistent as before, but the character writing is still strong.
Of course, I'm guessing that with this much screwing around by the network, the show handed a 13 episode exit just to get fans to shut up. It seems unlikely to be coming back no matter what the perceived quality of it is.

yeah, I also think that this was an issue. They had their storylines in place and eventually seemed to run out of time, so they cut things in half, resolved things pretty quickly or just dropped the story lines. It looked a bit sloppy and unfinished ... I think the season would have worked better in the usual 22-24 episodes set-up, where you have the time to develop the storylines and also throw in a few fun episodes.
I also found the timeline weird this season. Was the Cornwallis class over two semesters? Britta and Troy already dating for a year? 10 episodes or so until Christmas and 3 for the rest of the year? Seemed a bit sloppy to me. But again, probably due to having only 13 episodes.
I'd be fine with the show coming back. The season wasn't really good and it's nowhere near the first seasons, but it's still a better show than most of the other comedy series that are on.
I still think it could go either way for NBC. The ratings aren't really good, but Community is in a really tough timeslot (against Big Bang Theory etc) and they have already cancelled quite a number of comedy series (30 Rock, The Office, Whitney, Guys With Kids, Up All Night, 1600 Penn) ... they can't just cancel everything, they have to bring a few old series back.
There are reports from Deadline as well that Harmon may come back in some capacity.
I hope that is true, though still, with basically all the writers leaving after season 4 anyway, not sure that even Harmon could bring the show back to its full glory. My favorite writer in particular left and now writes for Modern Family (Megan Ganz).
Yeah, that was my thought as soon as they said majoring in education.
I'm pretty satisfied with that season. There were some rough patches particularly in the first half, but the last half of the season was one solid episode after another, with the puppet episode the lone exception, IMO. Obviously there were some problems with the larger arcs, episode to episode, but I'm going to blame that on the short season and hope that it's something they can work out for next season, regardless of how many episodes they get.
