So around 23-34? How sweet it is.

They are in cap jail and have 7 players with NMC.

Prospect pool bare.

Gillis is horrible and more than likely staying.

Best part is that they will probably fire AV and i dont see a coach available that would be a good fit for the team. They are a veteran club so i don't think a rookie coach is a good idea. The only veteran coach i can see is Ruff. I don't think he is a good fit because Ruff is all about defence and being physical. Neither of which the Canucks are good at.

the fact that thye have won 1 more playoff game than the Flames the past 2 years is so funny, especially with the great "new messier" Kesler "leading" the team.

Gerald Valk on sportsnet sounded like a pissed off whiny little kid. John Garret not much better. But Valk started by throwing Vignieult under the bus, but the surpriing part was that he said "Wingels is hurt on that play, but to throw yourself against the boards like that..." What?!?!?

Man, hope this marks the end of the nucks homerisms on that network.

However, i tuned into sportsnet for longer than 5 minutes for the first time in a year just to watch them cry.

Sportnet is to the Nucks as TSN is to the Leafs.

I agree Gillis drafting is horrible.
I believe that the draft order rules are the same as last year. If that is the case, the best possible pick for the Canucks is 22nd. That would require none of Pitt, Montreal, Chicago, or Anaheim to make the conference finals. For every one of those teams that makes the conference finals, the Canucks' pick moves one back, worst possible is 26th if all four of those teams make the conference finals. Getting swept does nothing to help their draft position.

Darren Pang thinks that the Canucks are good enough to compete for and win the Stanley Cup for the next 5-6 years.

They are in a worse shape than the Flames were in 2009.... and we know how that turned out.

The Flames had to go out and panic sign Bouwmeester to mess up the team.

The Canucks already have their albatrosses from Florida: Booth, Ballard and Garrison....(and of course Luoungo) all signed for at least 2 more years.

The Flames have to resist the temptation to pick one of two that the Canucks buyout for a 1M /yr 1 year deal..... unless the Flames are really planning to tank next year.

The Flames have moved past their Florida problem with Jokinen and Bouwmeester dealt with..

I definitely 100% agree. Stay the course, Vancouver.

It's really baffling to complain about the call, which was marginal for OT, when your goalie gives up a hilariously awful rebound off a weak, unscreened shot from far out (minutes after doing the same thing in regulation). Giving up a rebound off that shot is bad enough, but to lose the puck completely is pee-wee level.

I like Panger but he's one of those guys that clearly took too many pucks to the noggin in his playing days. You don't listen to him if you want sound NHL prognosis.

BTW where are all our beloved Canucks loving CP members? It's been a while since I've seen any of them post? Are they all banned or just in hiding?

Not to mention they were down 3-0 in the series, had already blown a 3-2 lead in the 3rd due to Bieksa's dumb penalty, and were generally being outplayed in overtime. But yeah, the penalty is the reason they lost the series.

Excellent post-mortem piece by Duhatschek, as always.

On any objective level, that was a solid foundation – of prime and emerging talent – and Gillis was correct in suggesting that a couple of good or bold decisions might have really helped them get over the top. Alas, it didn’t happen. They didn’t get over the top and the decision-making wasn’t particularly good or bold.

But mostly, Gillis inherited a nearly completed jigsaw puzzle and couldn’t fill in the last few missing pieces.
Boy it sure makes me feel warm and tingly inside knowing Gillis will likely survive this disaster and continue to make the decisions for this organization going forward.

Off topic but do you remember Phil Housley?

They are still talking about the OT hit. I like what Darren Dreger said on TSN when he mentioned that it wasn't a penalty five years ago but it is now due to the NHL braintrust placing a heightened priority of player safety.

The conspiracy theories are astounding. "Kelly Sutherland hates AV" is my favourite.

I do like Duhatschek's comparison with Calgary post-2004. Seems similar.

Alan Maki's column is also delicious.

"Oh, the unmistakable irony. The first team to be eliminated from the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs is the Vancouver Canucks. The team that came within a win of lifting the Cup two years ago. A team whose smugness face-washed outsiders the wrong way. A team accused of embellishing hits to draw penalties until, finally, it tossed the same accusation at the San Jose Sharks; a laughable turnabout that smacked of desperation...

"...few were thinking Vancouver would be beaten four straight in Round One. That it happened the way it did with all those penalties going against them, and all their stars out of sync, just made the ending seem all the more deserving.

There may be no joy in B.C., but the rest of the NHL is feeling pretty good about that."
