How was it a bad call? Because it was OT?

Quote:
Rule 41 - Boarding 41.1 Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently in the boards. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.
He was 2 feet from the boards and Sedin checked him so his head collided violently with the boards.

That is the very definition of the call.

Not really a tough call. That was the very definition of a boarding call.

Well will it be a new GM and coach, or just a new coach?

Was a legit call, but I would be absolutely furious if I was a Canucks fan. It's not the fact that Sedin boarded him; he did. It's the fact that San Jose has done that exact play multiple times, among others that the Canucks have gotten called for with no call on those plays. I really do see how they can be mad, that was not consistent reffing tonight and it hurt them multiple times.

The fact that the Canucks never adjusted to it though is awesome, they just kept playing over the edge even though the refs were not letting anything go for them.

Shoulder on shoulder is not boarding.

The Shark went in at a bad angle, but that was a clean hit.

41.1 Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently in the boards. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.
There is an enormous amount of judgment involved in the application of this rule by the Referees. The onus is on the player applying the check to ensure his opponent is not in a defenseless position and if so, he must avoid or minimize the contact. However, in determining wheter such contact could have been avoided, the circumstances of the check, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the check or whether the check was unavoidable can be considered. This balance must be considered by the Referees when applying this rule.
Any unnecessary contact with a player playing the puck on an obvious “icing” or “off-side” play which results in that player hitting or impacting the boards is “boarding” and must be penalized as such. In other instances where there is no contact with the boards, it should be treated as “charging.”

The above is the definition of boarding. I dont think the king player was in a defenseless position. I also think Sedin attempted to minimize the contact as they moved towards the boards. I perfer that to be allowed.

It has nothing to do with shoulder to shoulder. It's when a player is in a vulnerable position a few feet from the boards. That's a legit penalty.

That's not how boarding is defined. It's a check that leads to a player heading into the board, usually from behind but not necessary.

You need to sin bin yourself for defending the Canucks.
