#Glendale Chief Burdick: “If you have a drowning, if you have a stroke, if you have a heart attack in that area, it’s going to take longer.”
It will be politically difficult for COG to justify spending more than $6 M for AMF.

You mean like the deal by which the City of Glendale basically paid the NHL $25 million to operate the team there?
Sorry dude, but putting your hopes of the team moving to Quebec into GWI is likely to lead to disappointment.

I'm not putting my hopes anywhere, dude. Just following the story.
Quebec will get a team one way or the other, I'm not worried about that. I would not mind there being a team in Phoenix, but it does not make a great deal of sense. Having been there in March, I came away with the feeling that it would work much better downtown or in Scottsdale/Mesa.

The screw up was when they put the rink in the West Side of Glendale. It really makes it on the opposite side of town for a large majority of the population.
If it was downtown they Coyotes would have been more successful.

It would help but the arena could be anywhere and it still would've been run into the ground by Jerry Moyes and raped by Wayne Gretzky.

True Jobing.com Arena operating costs are well below what Glendale has paid
http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...ena-costs.html
The true cost to operate Jobing.com Arena ranges from $5.1 million to $5.5 million a year, which is about $10 million to $20 million a year less than the Glendale City Council has agreed to pay hockey-related interests to manage the facility in recent years.
Glendale council members interviewed by The Arizona Republic said they hadn’t reviewed the documents and were surprised by the figures.
Daly told the Sportsnet network that league officials are making progress with Renaissance’s principals concerning a sale, but future dealings with Glendale concerning the management package remain a “big question mark.”
Daly said there are no guarantees the Coyotes will stay in Arizona. Likewise, Glendale officials have offered no guarantees to keep them.
First line
Renaissance Sports & Entertainment — NHL executives are trying to sign a deal with Renaissance, a company formed to buy the team.
The four partners are George Gosbee, chairman of investment-banking firm AltaCorp Capital, which is based in Calgary, Alberta; Anthony LeBlanc, a former vice president of BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion, which is based in Waterloo, Ontario; Avik Day, president of the investment firm Remvest Energy Partners, of Houston; and Daryl Jones, director of research at Hedgeye Risk Management, of New Haven, Conn.
Second line
Darin Pastor — “There are other interested people that we’re working with at the same time, as well. Nobody has exclusivity here,” NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told a Canadian cable TV network.
That includes Pastor, the founder and CEO of Capstone Affluent Strategies, of Irvine, Calif., who announced his interest in the team by issuing a press release. He called NHL executives later. He said he heads a small group of friends and family members who would invest with him.
On the bench
Matt Hulsizer — The former Coyotes suitor was aligned with LeBlanc earlier this year, but the two are no longer working together for reasons that haven’t been publicly explained. Hulsizer is the co-founder and CEO of financial-services firm Peak6 Investments of Chicago.
John Kaites — Another former Coyotes suitor is not actively involved in discussions with the NHL, his spokesman David Leibowitz said. Kaites, a Phoenix lobbyist, previously was aligned with Chicago White Sox and Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf to buy the hockey team.
In the box
Greg Jamison — The former San Jose Sharks CEO could have secured a lucrative arena-management deal with Glendale if he had purchased the team from the NHL by Jan. 31, but he blew the deadline. He vowed to continue his efforts, but he has not returned messages from The Republic to clarify his current status.

Glendale playing waiting game with Coyotes, Cardinals
http://ktar.com/22/1632030/Glendale-...otes-Cardinals
"I do know that there's been several different folks interested," said Weiers. "I spoke with (NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman) over a week ago. He told me that he thought he would have something for me possibly this past Monday. I still haven't heard from him, so apparently they're trying to put some things together."
Weiers said he has not spoken with Greg Jamison for several months, and believes he no longer is a potential Coyotes owner.
Meanwhile, the mayor said he's aware of other people who want to buy the team.
"I've had a lot of names talked about, but I'm not at liberty to discuss that right now," said Weiers. "When I talked with people, I gave my word that until something's actually done, I'm not going to spread the fire. I'm not going to fan it."
Weiers wants the Coyotes to stay, but not at the expense of it costing the city money it should be spending on police, fire and other vital services. He said he's going to be cautious with negotiations to keep the team in Glendale.

That's fairly misleading. I can't tell what they're basing the $5.1-5.5 figures off of, they talk about documents but don't expand. The true figure is whatever the market says it is, which is confirmed further down in the article:
Quote:
The management fee for any particular arena is difficult to estimate, said Vicki Hawarden, president and CEO of the International Association of Venue Managers, which is based in Texas.
Each deal is affected by a variety of factors, including seating capacity, maintenance needs, the number and complexity of events, the area’s labor costs and the owner’s expectations, she said. The best way to determine the cost to run a particular arena is to put the job out to bid, Hawarden said.
“These companies are pretty sophisticated. They manage lots of venues,” she said. “Usually, these bids come in competitive against each other. It will be priced right to get the job.”

We'll find that out on May 24th.

Another hilarious Monday joke
That won't actually confirm anything about ownership, but it will be a pretty significant even in determining whether a team in Phoenix is viable.

Coyotes’ final push begins Tuesday
http://www.azcentral.com/insiders/da...egins-tuesday/
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly are coming to town on Tuesday. So will representatives from the Renaissance Sports and Entertainment, a group led by Anthony LeBlanc and Canadian financier George Gosbee.
Word is, the investor group has raised $240 million, which is $70 million more than the asking price. It’s willing to absorb $40 million in losses over the first four years of a 15-year deal. It will be seeking an out clause if the economics haven’t changed for the better, likely after five years.
It’s committed to re-signing Don Maloney and Dave Tippett, arguably the best general manager/coach tandem in the NHL.
The trick will be if Glendale can reach a lease agreement deal that works for everyone. The city understands the importance of the Coyotes to Westgate, the future of Jobing.com Arena and the Valley’s image as a big-league market featuring all four major professional sports. But it will not bend like it did for Greg Jamison, who would’ve received $308 million over 20 years.
Sources say the city will be looking to land in the $6-12 million range.

Funny how now Daly is talking that the team may move when Glendale isn't willing to pony up the same boatloads of cash they were before.

Why is it funny? IF Glendale didn't pony up before they would've moved 3 years ago...

Slimy or not it's the reality, and it's not just something that happens with sports. Companies frequently move operations to new locations that are willing to offer them more, be it outsourcing overseas or moves to other states. It's a reality of business.

Coyotes: New money, new ownership bid, new problems
http://www.azcentral.com/insiders/da...-new-problems/
Citing logistical problems, the NHL has rescheduled Tuesday’s meeting with the city of Glendale and representatives from an investor group led by Anthony LeBlanc. The parties will convene later this week.
But the league wasn’t at all happy with Monday’s front-page story in the Arizona Republic, which listed the true cost of running Jobing.com Arena at less than $6 million.
It’s the kind of news that could change public opinion and, more importantly, shift the view of city council members.
The team seems to have increasing value. Television ratings and ticket sales were up significantly last season. A rekindled housing market might finally spark a population boom in the West Valley that was expected before the recession, bringing more fans and businesses to the Coyotes’ doorstep.
But the lease agreement could be a fatal snag. LeBlanc’s group will likely request something similar to what Glendale once offered Greg Jamison ($15 million annually). They believe that operating costs are closer to $12 million annually – and that’s without a hockey team.
Problem is, Glendale has a new city council and a new mayor. And the fear is that the NHL and LeBlanc will fall one vote short of getting the funding they desire.

Phoenix Coyotes Rumor Roundup
http://nebulousverbosity.com/coyotes-rumor-roundup-2/
Now it looks like the Pastor group is sending the message they are, indeed, still very much in the mix for buying the Coyotes and keeping them in Glendale by announcing they’ve retained the Scottsdale office of Kutak Rock, LLP (based in Omaha) to “guide the documentation of the Coyotes transaction”.
While the other groups rumored to be working on a Coyotes deal haven’t been heard from publicly in awhile, this is a clear shot across the bow of Renaissance from the Pastor group and a deflection of the attention they’ve received for their meetings in Glendale. The ever Coyotes-positive Dan Bickley is even hinting that despite the Renaissance group’s bid could fail and Matt Hulsizer will rise from the ashes with “plenty of money” (?) and swoop in to grab the team.
@NBCSportsRoc: Pastor group has retained Kutak Rock, LLP’s Scottsdale office to guide legal process & doc of the #Coyotes transaction
