Guys like Yzerman and Spezza managed to learn how to play the defensive game. Defense is something that can be taught. You can't teach skill which is why the Canucks lost that trade badly. Kassain looks like Dustin Penner light in the making while Buffalo is building their team around Hodgson.

ya but so did Todd Bertuzzi and plenty of other power forwards early in their career

can't teach that size/skill combo either

pointless to judge the trade until the players reach their apex

Well you can't compare Buffalo to Vancouver. You could shelter Hodgson and don't deny he wouldn't be a great help right now. Kassian is a bust, he will be lucky to be in the NHL in 2 years.

I just quoted you the actual rule. If simply touching the puck with a glove was a foul, they could have said so. Instead they made it "gathering the puck into the hands"

I suppose although the Sabres return is now their franchise player and Kassain is far from that and Bertuzzi's never been a winner or big difference maker.

Gotta say I love Wilson's strategy of being buyers and sellers. He dealt Clowe and Murray for some solid picks in the next few drafts, then he brought in Hannan and Torres for next to nothing. Not that much of a downgrade really, and both have played great in the first few playoff games playing similar roles expected from the other two.

Brilliant strategy.

That's an insult to Dustin Penner.

Kassian looks like a Jason Wiemer with the hands of Warrener.

It likely ends up as one guy with uses and warts for another guy with pluses and warts.

Likely even deal.

I would take the skill set of Hodgson in a heart beat.

Yeah he really had a brilliant deadline. That's how good teams stay good while still building.

While I love trashing the Canucks as much as everyone else I do have a question. Did it ever come out what Schneider's injury was? I thought they were being all super secret double hush hush with it weren't they? Methinks he was a lot worse off than they let on and rushed back to try and save the series.

Canuck fans on HF think they can get a top 5 pick for the Sedins and top 3 for Edler.

They'll rebuild in no time.

Yeah it's really just that easy. I imagine Gillis is targeting a bunch of Panthers as we speak as you can never have too many players from one of the basement teams in the league.

The interpretation they've been using is covering the puck with your hand. Touching it isn't an issue

For all the criticism he gets, Marleau deserves a lot of credit for that 4th goal, which basically ended the series. If Kesler had taken that hack he'd still be lying on the ice.

The stunning goaltending duel of 8oungo and 5chneider.

Greatest self destruction since Kirk blew up the Enterprise.

One of my friends suggested that the Canucks should trade the Sedins for Pietrangelo and a first round pick

Yeah, I just know I've seen it before where it resulted in a penalty shot. Maybe where I seen it they blew the call?
