I would imagine that trading Cammalleri plus eating salary could possibly get you a first round pick in the 15-22 range. Teams on the cusp looking for a little bit of immediate help could be willing to make that deal. Cammy at 3-4 million would be a hell of a pick up and much cheaper then something on the open FA market.
Edmonton's best move is to trade their pick for a D in the 24-27yr old range... I'm not sure which teams have one they'd be willing to move, though.
That's the problem isn't it? If you have a good looking young defenseman like say Brodie that you have developed why would you trade him for a 1st round pick? Good young defensemen don't grow on trees an teams picking defensemen in the 1st round only hope they turn into top 2/4 defensemen. If you have that guy why trade him ulness you have a dearth of talent in that area? I think it would be easier for them to attain a veteran defenseman that is in his late 20's early 30's such as Giordano for example.
Would you do;
To Calgary Edmonton's first round pick at 7
To Edmonton St Louis's first round pick and Brossoit or Wideman
Love for that to happen, but I can't see the Oilers would even consider it. At this point, the Pens 1st rounder is probably worth more than Brossoit or Wideman, and I don't even see them trading their pick for both the Blues and Pens pick.

Ya, I totally agree...though with an older player like Gio, the deal gets a little less tempting for the Oilers.
There might be players like Brodie out there where it makes sense for a team to move him for a 7 th overall pick... In fact, the Flames might be just such a team.
I'm thinking of a player like Travis Hamonic, though the Islanders are a bad example here as they're in a similar spot to the Oilers whereby continuing to stockpile picks doesn't really make sense.
Which teams, other than the Flames, are either just initiating a rebuild or are in the very early phase of one? ... If such a team exists, that's where Edmonton's pick should go, assuming they have a D worthy of the pick
Maybe Keith Yandle... Tyler Myers... Adam Larsson... Goligoski... ??? ... even Brodie or Giordano ???

The more I read, the more I'm committed to the "All your 1sts are belong to us" train. I think this is a draft you want to get as many 1st rounders as possible, and not necessarily trade them away to move up. It would definitely be nice to get another one in that 10-15 range though....the problem is how you do you get another 1st rounder without doing something stupid.
There are some Finnish guys that I play hockey with, and they think Barkov is the best Finnish player since Teemu.
I don't know how the SM-Liiga of today compares to older Finnish leagues, but the box scores back that up (ie better numbers at his age than Jokinen, Koivu, etc).
I think he has the best chance of this year's class of becoming a franchise player.

I try not to hype him because you never know, but at the moment you can definitely argue that Barkov is the best Finnish prospect since Selänne. That's different than saying that he'll be the best player though.
His numbers are up there with the Sedins and the twins were a year older in their draft year. If there are better prospects in this particular draft, that's one thing, but Barkov is talented enough to go first overall.
Barkov is insanely good. Nice video clip of him. Puck on a string. I'd love to draft him. There's a 10% chance he'll still be available at 6, but likely he goes 2-4.
I think the top 4 is can't miss. All likely to be franchise type players.
