Morrisey, Morin, Compher & Rychel are standouts for me. Grab 2 of them and I'd be happy.

Anyone think one or both of these players will be available with our two late first rounders?
1. Max Domi
2. Bo Horvat
3. Kerby Rychel
4. Hunter SHinkaruk
5. Anthony Mantha
Shinkaruk will be long gone by then. I believe he will score 30 goals in the NHL. His work ethic is ridiculous.

He does, for as skilled as he is, he actually back checks very hard, something skilled Knights forwards are not always required to do. Perry, Kane, Nash, Shremp were all offense all the time.

Josh Morrissey
Jimmy Lodge
Ian McCoshen
Justin Bailey
Morgan Klimchuk

etc..

There are very few players I would be unhappy with at this point.

Heard tired himself out by using Zadorov as a speed bag at the start. Neither guy did damage. At best a draw for Z. Though that is an improvement.

I would love to get a lazar and rychel... If we get one, I think we'd be lucky (hoping for Rychel)

The Flames have three organizational opportunities to fill in the first round. I'd like to see them draft skilled, big-bodied players in C, D and RW positions, respectively.

Aleksander Barkov (C 6'2, 205) or Sean Monohan (C 6'2, 186)
Valentin Zykov (RW 6'0, 210)

Are my must-haves in Calgary's current draft positions, depending on who is available with the Calgary and Pittsburgh picks.

The defenseman is tricky, I wanted Ristolainen, but he may be gone before the St Louis pick, so in that instance, I'd likely go for Josh Morrisey or Ryan Pulock, whichever is available at the time.

Hartman and Mueller are lateral picks to those you put up that I would also like to see the Flames draft. Not as must have but good targets in what is shaping up to be a very active and ever changing draft. Ristolainen would be a huge steal if they somehow moved up for him.

It seems that NHL been getting some diamond in a rough defenseman from Sweden lately. Minnesota also have a rookie Swedish defenseman this season by the name Jonas Brodin 10th overall in 2011.

Not liking the things I'm reading about Mantha. Sounds like 1st rd talent with no heart/work-ethic. I hope Calgary stays away.

Edit: Here's the article I was thinking of. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...eport/2125625/

Quote:
-A couple of observations from the early stages of the Quebec League playoffs. First off, let us begin by saying that Val-d'Or winger Anthony Mantha is a first-round talent - no question. However, if we were drafting, say… 24th overall and Mantha was the highest rated player left on our board when it came time to make the pick? Well, let's just say we would somehow manage to find someone else we liked just a little bit better.
Honestly, does this guy even have a pulse? He plays with absolutely zero fire or passion and, as we like to say: If he ain't scorin', he ain't helpin'.
At a little more than 6-3, 200 pounds with great hands, you would think teams would be lining up to take him in the top 10. And we honestly do believe that he could become a 30-goal scorer at the NHL level. But it would be the softest 30 goals in the history of goaldom. And somebody in your organization along the way would have to teach him how to at least spell the word "compete," because it's absolutely certain at this stage that he has no clue about the meaning of that word.

If this really is a deep draft, I'd like to see the Flames use all 3 first rounders, instead of bundling to move up. A good example is Anaheim in 2003, who took two swings at a deep draft and ended up with 2 elite players.

I have no suggestions for who to draft because I have not been following any junior hockey. As far as organizational need, we need elite players at every position, so I'd say take as many cracks at it as possible.

I'd like any of Horvat, Wennberg, Gauthier, Compher, or Rychel if we're drafting a forward, Mueller and Hagg if we're going after a D. Any of the other guys are either likely going to go in the 10-17 range or are guys I'd avoid like Mantha, Petan (short or poor work ethic)

The only way in which I'd try to move up is packaging a player and one of the picks to move up.

Like Tanguay + STL 1st for the 12th overall pick or something like that.

I'd love to see Morrissey and Rychel along with Lindholm/Nurse/Monahan. I think that's the kind of vision we need.

I know. I get excited thinking about things like this.

I have no idea if this 1st round will end up producing as many star players as 2003 did, but if it does could you imagine smacking a home run with all three picks the way teams like Philly and Anaheim did with two picks in 2003?

Imagine walking away from a draft with Suter, Getzlaf and Perry......

Yikes.

Hope the Flames scouts know what they're doing, so we don't walk away with Zherdev, Pouliot and Belle instead.

I will say the Ducks got somewhat lucky as it was inexcusable that teams let Getzlaf fall to 19th. Perry was an astute pick as he really came on after his draft year.

I would love to get Domi with our St Louis pick but I dont think he gets by the leafs at 21 if he doesnt go earlier.

In general I would like to draft a smaller hard working player whose size its whats stopping him from being a top pick rather than a less skilled or lower work ethic player. In the first round get the best ceiling we can. We can pick up 3rd line physical players lower down.

Would be nice if we could package the STL and PIT picks to move up and get Gauthier. Coming out of this draft with 2 big skilled first round centres would make me happy.

Wish list

6th
C Monahan 6'2 186
C Lindholm 6 190
D Nurse 6'4 195
25th
C Rychel 6'1 200
D Morrissey 6 185
LW Klimchuk 5'11 185
Would Love to get Lazar here but i would be suprised if he makes it past 15.
27th-30th
D Mueller 6'3 185
C Lodge 6'2 170
RW Hartman 5'11 185

Personally i think Feaster and particularly Weisbrod will not pass on the Americans with the PIT pick RW/C JT Compher or D Keaton Thompson to fill their NCAA cravings. Also they are slotted to be late 1st round picks.

If they continue to like small skill players then 5'9 165 LW/C Nicolas Petan will be their PIT pick. 109 pts for Portland.

Petan is definitely intriguing.

With offensive numbers like that you gotta think he'd be top ten in this draft if he wasn't a hobbit.

Sven PPG with Winterhawks in draft year - 1.28
Petan PPG with Winterhawks in draft year - 1.69

Pretty sick numbers.
