I think Nichushkin's KHL contract might scare away a lot of team. I am afraid the only team on the Top 10 who can afford to gamble on him is the Edmonton Oilers because they already so many talented young players in Hall, RNH, Gagner, Yakupov, Paajarvi and others. The only reason the Oilers might stay away from him is if the stud young defenseman they are looking for is still available.
I am hoping (in order) McKinnon, Monahan, Lindholm or even Nichushkin is still available for the Flames first pick.
I am also hoping Nichushkin falls down on the draft order and be available when the Flames gets their 2nd first round pick.

I like the the strategy of packaging our Stl and Pit picks to move up in the draft. If the scouts feel the difference is worth it - A first pairing guy/ top line player vs. a second pairing/ second liner.
Guys that may fit the bill as worthy to move up for:
- Domi
- Pulock
- Morissey
- Nurse
- Shinkaruk
- Ristolainen
However, the scouts may see some potential late round steals with big upside. If that is the case, then it may be better to stand pat.
Potential late round guys with high upside?:
- Morin
- McCoshen
- Mueller
- Zykov
I would like to pick some hard to play against, smart, consistent players.
Personal Preference:
- Hartmen
- Compher
- Horvat
- Lazar
- Heatherington
I think these are the type of guys you win with.

It's not like Fucale is going to step in any time soon and be the Flames' starter. Unless he is heads and tails the BPA I would prefer they focused on the blue line or right wing (especially with Hartman still on the board in that mock draft).

There's usually very little stock put into who the actual team is when the lists are made outside of maybe the first couple picks. Especially considering the playoffs changes everything. So the creator of the list sees Fucale as being the 25th best player and puts him there, nothing to do with Calgary. Usually.
I like that the other link has Washington at second overall, what a month and a half does.

Jim Nill (former Assistant GM of Detroit and new GM of Dallas) was on the Marek vs Wyshynski podcast. I can't remember the exact words, but it went pretty much like this:
Interviewer: Jim, this draft, a lot of people are saying there is a top-three, top-four; where do you see the drop-off in this draft?
Nill: I think the drop-off happens around twelve or fourteen.
Interviewer: Oh!?
Nill: I see a lot of similarities between this draft and the Perry-Getzlaf draft. (2003) "
Now, Dallas has the 10th pick, so he might have been putting a little shine on things, but if this is an honest assessment from one of the best scouting minds in hockey, having three first rounders in this draft could change the whole direction of our franchise.
However, to not get too crazy about things: in the stacked 2003 draft, picks 6, 25 and 29 were Milan Michalek, Anthony Stewart and Patrick Eaves. Okay, but picks 5, 24 and 28 were Thomas Vanek, Mike Richards, and Corey Perry.

I know for a fact that Colorado loves Jones, Florida loves Mackinnon and Tampa loves Drouin. Would be shocked if the top three didn't go like that.

That would be some kind of scenario. They pick up a possible first line center and then follow it up with what could easily turn out to be the best player in the draft with their next pick. Then another solid guy from the Pens pick.
A blue chip, a potential franchise player and a solid NHL player from one round. Yeah dreaming is fun!

I've advocated packaging our picks to move up but your post shows exactly why that may not be a good idea.

Looking at their depth chart I'd agree with that, regardless of who they "love" it fits their organizational needs.
Not sure about Carolina, looking at their set-up I could see them taking Nichushkin. Pretty stong at center with the Staal brothers and Skinner but really weak wing depth and their defense isn't impressive either but Nurse at would be a reach. Nashville just needs help everywhere.

Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Carolina took Nichushkin at #5.
I might be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that Nashville were really keen on Lindholm because he has played with Filip Forsberg before and they wanted to reunite that Swedish connection.
If that happens I could see the top 6 going something like this:
1. Colorado - Jones
2. Florida - MacKinnon
3. Tampa - Drouin
4. Nashville - Lindholm
5. Carolina - Nichushkin
6. Calgary - Barkov/Monahan

I actually think Nurse could be the real wild card that shakes up the predicted order of the top 6. The way he accelerated through the rankings this year will get him a lot of attention. Trajectory-wise, he could be worth a gamble as an early pick given the relative rarity of elite defensemen in the top 10 this year.

This could be an interesting draft it seems. I think the top 8 will likely roll out pretty much as expected....
Jones
MacKinnon
Drouin
Barkov
Nichushkin
Lindholm
Monohan
Nurse
The latter part of that might switch order a bit, but it looks like those will very likely be the first 8 players drafted, unless Nichushkin really drops due to the Russian factor.
After that, reading different publications, and on here.....it sure seems like a lot of the remaining 1st round hopefuls could go anywhere from 9/10 to late first round, depending on each teams list.
I'm really starting to hope we just keep the three 1st's and snag *BPA with each pick. This could be a draft we look back on in 5 years as a real franchise altering draft (for the better).
*I also hope BPA with every pick is a big, skilled, two way center that turns into a stud NHLer over the next 1-3 years.

Definitely has the x-factor some teams are looking for. I wasn't aware of his bloodlines until the lottery special on TSN. There are some serious athletic ties in that family.
I could see him being the real deal as well, but he doesn't make it past Edmonton assuming they are keeping their pick.. Though I may be giving Edmonton too much credit.

In all honesty, I'm hoping the Oilers don't take Nurse. For some reason, I think he's going to have a heck of a career, and might top out as a franchise dman. The guy has Weber potential, and it'd suck if Edmonton got someone like that.

I can see Carolina taking Nurse. Their defense is horrible.
