I happen to like what Feaster & Co. did at the 2012 NHL Entry draft. But, it is pertty clear that this Management team along with Weisbroad and the scouting staff have shown that they will do what they beleive is correct, and that this may be different than what is expected on everybodys list.
With the first pick, I hope that they follow the lists and take BPA. I think that they could do anything with the last two first round picks.

I posted this some time ago in a related discussion but it applies here to. When you say "follow the lists" what do you mean? Who's list? Why would the follow any list but their own?
Anyways here's what I wrote about Janko a while back:
As a draft nut - I read a ton of different previews, mocks and what not heading into each year. Button was far from the only guy that had Jankowski in the first round.
A couple of examples
Red Line Report had him going 15 in their final mock
Hockey Prospect had him just outside the first at 36
McKeens had him at 37
SB Nation had him at 28
Bleacherreport had him listed in an article about the "7 prospects you should know bfore the draft" saying "All things considered, Jankowski is the ultimate boom or bust pick. He could be selected anywhere from late in the top 10 to the middle of the second round, but if given the opportunity and time to develop properly, Jankowski could make the GM that selects him look like a genius. "
He had some buzz around him before the draft - enough that he was included in discussion on this site as well.

I'm still very happy with he previous 2 or 3 drafts for the Flames... The players seem to be developing nicely... I have confidence going into this one as well... I really think the Flames have turned a corner in this regard.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they manage to be ranked in the Top 5 prospect pools in the next 12-18 months.

I agree that they have done really well lately and I am confident that they can keep it going.
But as for moving into the top 5 in prospect pool rankings, that will be very difficult because, as a young team, they will likely have a lot of graduations. This year, Brodie and Horak graduated. Next year, Baertschi, Bouma, Reinhart, and maybe Cundari or Breen could graduate (and possibly our first pick as well).
And that trend will continue the following year in all likelihood.
The prospect pool rankings generate a lot of interest, obviously, but what really matters is how many guys you can have graduate and become NHLers.

So... what are the odds our first round selection makes the team next season?
I think watching Baertschi-Lindholm will make me want to watch this team again!

I wouldn't be surprised if Feaster traded the Pittsburgh and St. Louis draft picks for one or two young NHL ready players. I don't think I'd be happy with this but draft picks are at their most valuable from now until draft time.

I'll be surprised if they trade both, but i think one of the late picks is out the door for sure.
The only part of this management team that i have faith in is the drafting, so i hope they draft with all 3 first round picks.

Lindholm, Russian and Barkov are already in pro leagues so they probably would or potentially sent to Abbotsford for a spell. Nurse or Monahan I'd send back to juniors.

Part of me want monahan just so I finally have an individual Canadian player to cheer for at the WJC. Tired of there never being Flames players on there. I know Wotherspoon was there last year, but I want a stud WJC player from the Flames on team Canada. That is all.

Who would you rather have on your team CP? Monahan or Lindholm?

If the Flames want a more skilled line-up then they would take Lindholm. But if they want a more well rounded line-up then they would take Monahan.

Lindholm has the higher potential and is the more skilled of the two
Monahan is probably the more complete player in terms of 2 way play and physicality. Will not have to adjust the NA game.
Anyone look into Lindholm's contract status in Sweden? how much longer is he committed to play there?
edit: Lindholm's contract in Sweden expires after the 2013/2014 season according to eliteprospects.com
I think Lindholm may be more boom/bust while Monahan will be the safer pick (i.e. Monahan could fit into the bottom 6 if need be where as I don't see Lindholm there).

I just have that gut feeling that Monahan is going to be a bust.. I may be completely wrong.
Kind of reminds me of Mark McNeill

I get the sense that the picks are not being shopped. So unless an offer with good value comes along, I expect all three picks will be made by the Flames.

I get that same feeling about him too. I'd prefer Lindholm and to stay away from Monahan. Could also be I knew a Monahan and he was a horrible player and I have a irrational fear that the trait runs in the family name.

I don't think Lindholm's contract status means anything as Sweden has an agreement with the NHL, so our contracts take precedence not like the KHL.

Comparing Monahan to McNiel is absolutely stupid.
Stats in junior:
McNiel: 0.88 PPG average
Monahan: 1.09 PPG average.
Monahan is an elite face-off man with lethal scoring ability and elite hockey sense. He is in every way better than McNiel and the Flames would be very lucky to have him in the Flaming C. I would take Lindholm to but anyone with a brain can see that Monahan won't turn out to be like McNiel.
