Hoping for lindholm, rychel, lazar.
If we win the lottery, trade 1st overall to Colorado for 3rd overall and 2nd rounder. Take drouin/mackinnon, rychel, lazar, and one of compher, klimchuck, hagg at the top of the second.

I'm fully on the Mackinnen bandwagon now. So if we win the lottery I don't want to trade that pick to the Avs risking the Panthers selecting Mackinnen. I like Drouin but I want Nate much more.

I don't know who these guys are, but the mock draft up on NHL.com is atrocious.

I wonder if he's a Red Wings fan?

^^^ Lindholm at 13? While Shinkaruk goes at 4?
That was the best he could do? Does he even know who these guys are?

Stop making up stuff.
Button had Teravainen high in his rankings, the Flames passed on him twice.
Flames had Sieloff ranked in their top 30 (would've taken Sieloff if Janko was gone), he was no where near top 30 in Buttons.
Just 2 examples. Todd would be fired if that was true.

You just know Edmonton is going to win the lottery with the 7th place slot that we had two days ago. It's just too "Calgary Flames" not to happen.

To Calgary:
Minnesota's 1st (projected to be 15th overall assuming 1st round exit to Chicago)
Buffalo's 2nd (38th overall)
Would you do that trade? For what prospect that could potentially fall to 15 would you do that trade for?
|
pulock shinkaruk ristolianen mantha
then with 38th you hope that a high risk guy like petan or subban is there.
if not you take a big dman morin etc.
my preference would be if you want highest risk/reward
lindholm pulock petan
or if you want size
monohan mantha and morin

i could also see columbus trading their 14th overall pick
just missed out on the playoffs, the urge for playoff hockey is stronger for that particular franchise, and clearly they need roster players.
while they also have 3 1sts i don't see them drafting anyone who is close to the show.
stempniak or cammy and the pitt pick for 14th?
i just see columbus and calgary as dance partners come draft day.

How did they pass on him twice? He was there at 14 but gone at 21

Seeing that the two 1st rounders are going to be late ones I could see Calgary trying to trade up. The Pittsburgh pick for moving from 25th (st.Louis pick) to around 15th? Depends who is available obviously but if someone like Ristolainen is still at 15 on the board it could be a viable option.

unless we are trading into the top 3, no trading up at the cost of having less than 3 1st round picks please.
if we can get a first round quality center and dman and <whatever>, it will definitely help the trajectory of the franchise in the long run.
also, if this is anything like the 03 draft as people are comparing it to, then i'd like to see as many picks as possible regardless of where they are in the top 30.

Holy over-reaction Batboy!!!
I was only pointing out that last year the flames passed over MANY players that EVERY OTHER scouting agency was sure the Flames would take. No one had Mark Jankowski going at 21st overall. Most on this board; including myself, had no idea who Mark Jankowski was.
I happen to like what Feaster & Co. did at the 2012 NHL Entry draft. But, it is pertty clear that this Management team along with Weisbroad and the scouting staff have shown that they will do what they beleive is correct, and that this may be different than what is expected on everybodys list.
With the first pick, I hope that they follow the lists and take BPA. I think that they could do anything with the last two first round picks.

Different people mean different thing when they say 'deep' draft.
Sometimes they mean "Insead of the first 1 or 2 or maybe 3 guys being home runs, the top 7 guys all have franchise player potential."
Or they might mean "Instead of there being a big drop-off in talent halfway through the 1st round, it looks like there's reliable NHLers all the way through the 2nd round."
Both of those would be 'deep' drafts, but you would approach them very very differently.

Agreed, but people seem to think this draft is true in BOTH of those regards.
