I'm not saying that the Flames choices in the 2012 draft were bad.....I'm just saying that come draft day, don't be suprised if they don't take the players that central scouting, Bob MacKenzie or any one else would choose at that draft spot.

Holy pessimism Batman. FFS, why be so negative?
You also ignored drafting Seiloff...
Also, of those players you listed, who has the most nhl points?

So...

76.8 percent chance of drafting sixth.
17.0 percent chance of drafting seventh.
6.2 percent chance of drafting first.

An interesting series of tweets regarding the top of the draft between https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie and https://twitter.com/coreypronman

Corey Pronman
With final bottom 10 standings in place, should note that NHL scouts I've talked to feel the "top tier" of the draft runs 7-8 players deep.

Bob McKenzie
@coreypronman based on my surveys, there's a little separation after 4 and a bigger one after 7. Scatter gun after 7.

Corey Pronman ‏
@TSNBobMcKenzie that's about what I've heard as well. That top 4 differs is someone likes Nichushkin and Barkov a lot.

Bob McKenzie
@coreypronman I could be wrong but I think VN gets "factored" out of top 4.

Corey Pronman
@TSNBobMcKenzie absolutely, just talking talent-based not where Nich will be on a team's board on draft day.

Bob McKenzie
@coreypronman For sure. My separation after 4 takes into account the "factor." In a KHLless, passport free world, separation is after 5.

Corey Pronman
@TSNBobMcKenzie I even heard from one scout who thought Nich could be in discussion for 1-2 without the factor after his great Feb tourney.

Bob McKenzie
@coreypronman Agreed, but hasn't been as good this wk. According to some I talked to, 5 of 6 wouldn't take him top 5 tho they rank him top 5

Thinking Wennberg might be someone I am willing to pull that trade for. Zadarov for sure.

I hope our management likes Lindholm as much as I do, but we'll be OK either way.

Now ... if we don't draft a center, that's another story.
This is just going off what some CP member said, so basically nothing, but someone mentioned that management was pretty high on Lindholm.

Hopefully that's the case. Now that we're at 6th solid, I really hope we snag Lindholm.

At the end of the 2012 draft, Todd Button was asked something along the lines of watching Mackinnon and Jones as the top 2 for 2013 and he replied that he thought "the kid from Sweden" could make it a top 3.

So Lindholm was definitely on the Flames radar a year ago.

Ok, that's the first tangible response to that rumour, I remember what 3 Justin 3 is referring to, but I didn't hear the backstory.

If that's right (which I assume it is), I really think the Flames will trade up if they think someone will grab Lindholm. If one of Nichushkin, Nurse, Monahan, or even a Shinkaruk or Zadorov go before, he'll be available.

I think they'll have discussions with Carolina to either see who they're taking, or to swap picks, because I really think that top 4 is set. It's doubtful Carolina takes a center, but because of their likely preference for a D or winger, they might be a trade target to move down and the Flames might be worried someone else moves into that spot to take Lindholm.

So, by the top tier being 7-8 players deep, i'm assuming those 7-8 are Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Nichuskin, Lindholm, Monahan and(or not) Nurse.

That's ecouraging to know that they consider Monahan and Lindholm 'top tier' players. Bodes well for our pick, and what his impact may be. I think that Nuchuskin will either get picked really early (top 3-4), or drop really far. (10 or later). Wouldn't be shocked to see one of Nurse, Nichuskin get taken before we pick. Nurse is, after all, the 2nd best d-man in the draft after Jones, and if a top 10 team not picking 1st has defense as their priority going in, then he would be the first of the rest to go.

Well sir, there's nothin on earth like a genuine, bonafide, electrified, 6th pick Monahan.
What'd I say? Monahan
What's he called? Monahan
That's right, Monahan!

I think we target Lindholm, and if he's gone... Monahan's our man.

These 3 mock drafts have him going all over the place - interesting. Would it be shocking if we took him? Would we hate it?

So, prior to the lottery, we have #7, #21, and #29 - is that correct?

This mock draft has us taking Lindholm, Hagg, & Petan. Interesting.

Didn't realize Columbus also has 3 first rounders this year...

Instant analysis if Feaster took Shinkaruk at 6.

We have 6, 25 (assuming St. Louis goes out first round ... wow that pick got bad fast) and 26 (assuming Pens don't make the ECF)

That's right, Monahan!
I hear he may have skill that is raw?
Nonsense, he's the best 6th pick, of them all!

Is there a chance picking him continues the Flames poor top draft pick trend?
Not on your life, my Calgarypuck friend!

What about us message board slobs?

I think it may be #7, #24, and #29. Is the full list up somewhere?

If Feaster takes Shinkurak with a top 6 pick then this guy needs to take a visit to his office....

Interesting that the 3rd mock draft shows Calgary picking Barkov at 7th. Of course we're 6th now, but that would still be insane to see him fall to us that far. Is it even possible..? Doesn't look like it. But who knows who these team above us have at the top of their lists.
