Monahan seems like a solid pick....although still holding out for that 6% chance

I'd also like to add that I agree completely about Nichuskin.
Feaster and Co. will get to sit down and interview him beforehand, and see where his priorities lie. If it's convincing that he desires to make the move to north america asap for the opportunity at a roster spot, and his wishes long term involve the NHL, then I'd say pull the trigger.
Russian factor aside, he's a top 3 player. An absolute steal at 6 if he wants to be part of the solution here.

I've been a pretty consistent ledgewalker over the last few weeks, but I think we're going to get the center we want. Carolina fans seem to think they're going D or winger. They don't see why they'd take a center.
I hope our management likes Lindholm as much as I do, but we'll be OK either way.
Now ... if we don't draft a center, that's another story.

After Nichushkin's comments the other day, no Flames fan should want to draft him.

Stated which teams he would like to play for (NYR, Philly) and that he would only come over to North America if he was guaranteed a spot in the NHL.
He's a me-first player. Opposite of what our management has said they're looking for.

Surprisingly, a list that doesn't wow you too much overall. There actually were more outstanding picks made at 5 and 7 over this span of time. But hopefully, if this draft really is a 2003 comparable, we land a true long time talent regardless.

Flames have picked sixth 3 times:
1992 Cory Stillman C 1025 278
1997 Daniel Tkaczuk C 19 4
1998 Rico Fata RW 23

Jagr was 5th.
The legendary Scott Scissons was 6th that year.

Remember 2012 NHL Entry Draft when Feaster & Co. went way off board and traded our 14th overall pick to Buffalo for 21st and a second round pick, passing up on Zemgus Girgensons & Cody Ceci; and then passed on Olli Matta, Michael Matheson Henrik Samuelsson, & Brendan Gaunce to take Mark Jankowski.
I'm not saying that the Flames choices in the 2012 draft were bad.....I'm just saying that come draft day, don't be suprised if they don't take the players that central scouting, Bob MacKenzie or any one else would choose at that draft spot.

Boy were we good with late round picks in the 80's: Hull, Fleury, Suter, Loob and Makarov.

I would be kind of surprised if CAR were to “reach” for a D.
http://www.coppernblue.com/2009/5/23...ford-who-needs
I don’t know if it’s true that CAR is hesitant in drafting D in the first round. Perhaps it was true but isn’t now, perhaps it never was. It is true that, since that was written, CAR has drafted a D in the first round, but it’s possible Murphy is more of an exception. That it’s not so much CAR flat out won’t take a D, but maybe that they prefer to avoid it if the D isn’t, in their opinion, overwhelmingly the BPA. Murphy is also a different kind of D, with a ton of offense – CAR may have felt that if they want that specific type of D the best way to get one is the draft if their perception is that high scoring D are overpriced both in the trade and UFA market, relative to other types of D.

With all due respect, he was asked which teams in the NHL he liked. He named (NYR, Philly) that's it. Saying he's a me-first player and we shouldn't draft him is like us not taking Iggy because he was an Oilers fan. I hope our management uses a little more intelligence when drafting then that.

I would be surprised to see that Flames do anything extraordinary with our 1st pick. the other two firsts is another story but I highly expect to see a unsurprising choice with our first pick.

Here is a hypothetical draft day situation:
To Buffalo:
St. Louis's 1st (projected to be 20th-25th overall)
Pittsburgh's 1st (projected to be late 25th to 30th overall)
To Calgary:
Minnesota's 1st (projected to be 15th overall assuming 1st round exit to Chicago)
Buffalo's 2nd (38th overall)
Would you do that trade? For what prospect that could potentially fall to 15 would you do that trade for?

Morrissey or Mantha? Or perhaps Zadarov if he slips a bit. Button also has Ristolainen at 20, but I think that's way too late.
