Just thinking out loud here (so to speak).

By 2015-16 we COULD realistically have:

Sven Baertschi
Johnny Gaudreau
Ben Hanowski
Kenny Agostino
Mark Jankowski
TJ Brodie
Mikael Backlund
Roman Horak
Max Reinhart
Mark Cundari
Markus Granlund
2013 1st rounder (CGY pick)
2013 1st rounder (STL pick)
2014 1st rounder (CGY pick)

On the roster, all 26 or younger.

Obviously this is highly unlikely to be accurate. Trades and busts happen all the time but it was an interesting thought.

I would even potentially add Wotherspoon and Sieloff to that list since there are relatively few dmen on it and I think they're at least as good prospects as most of those forwards.

Wotherspoon should certainly be on the team by then. I expect him to see some action in Calgary next year and full time with the Flames in either 2014 or 2015.

Bouma should also be on the list.

Jankowski could still be a year away from being a full-time NHLer at that point.

Any or all of Kulak, Culkin, and Sieloff could realistically be patrolling the Flames' blueline 3 seasons from now.

Brossoit and/or Gillies are also possibilities.

Don't forget Ramage... still a chance he gets signed and populates the bottom six.

Crazy. Even more reason to get Ramage signed.

Sure... if you're wealthy that's maybe an option. Full year tuition at Yale is fourty grand... that's more then he'll make in Abbotsford after income tax deductions and way more then he'll make in Abbotsford after taxes and cost and quality of living are factored in. To say nothing of how difficult it may be to complete while attending only part-time.

I think it's clear and away the right choice to get that diploma in the bag and then move fully into making a go of a career in hockey. If it was some community college then sure jump start the hockey career but this is Yale we're talking about.

Bottom pairing? Ramage is a blueliner.

That's if the Flames even want him. If they don't think he has a realistic shot to play in the NHL one day I'd rather they not burn a reserve list slot on him.

During the lockout:
"God these players are stupid! If more of these guys had an education we'd never be in this mess"

After the lockout:
"God these players are stupid! What is the point of getting an education when you could be making NHL money?!"

Love it......

Best guess, he doesn't sign with Calgary. He's played four years in college, I think he's going to wait it out and hit the market in August. When interviewed at the summer rookie camps he's always been hard to nail down, never seemed that excited to be part of the organization. I guess we'll see what happens, but I won't be surprised if Calgary can't sign him.

Seems fairly doubtful considering he isn't really a top prospect and there likely isn't going to be a big market for him if he left.

Anything is possible but since it rarely happens and mainly with guys that are considered top guys I don't think there is much to worry about at all with him.

I think your math is wrong. As mentioned, he'll likely get $90K signing bonus right off the bat He will likely get slightly less than $70K a year playing in the AHL. If he gets called up, he gets thousands of dollars a day just to be on the roster. He can make a maximum of $900K for less than a year's worth of work.

As for the diploma, I don't understand the difficulty of completing a degree for someone who is young, motivated, has only a year left, and doesn't have to worry about money. Lots of athletes do it. Some players with NHL aspirations plan earlier and take courses in the summer and then continue taking courses until they are finished. A lot of hockey players go to college for a year because it's easier to go back than to reapply for admissions to first year. It's even easier when you only have one year left of studies to complete. There should be absolutely no concerns that Agostino can go back and finish his degree when his hockey career is over. It's not like he'll be using his degree to find work after he graduates. But his hockey career can absolutely be affected by staying another year in college.

Ramage is exactly what the Flames are lacking. He's a versatile character blueliner that likes to play physical. Plus, and its a big plus, he shoots right. Must sign. The guy is a future captain and leader.

Below is potentially our team for next season. Is anyone else concerned that 16 out of 21 players shoot left?

LW C RW EF
Mike Cammellerri Mikael Backlund Roman Cervenka Tim Jackman
Alex Tanguay Jiri Hudler Sven Baertschi Blair Jones
Roman Horak Max Reinheart Curtis Glencross
Ben Hanowski Matt Stajan Lee Stempniak
D D ED
Mark Giordano Dennis Wideman Mark Cundari
TJ Brodie Corey Sarich
Chris Butler Derek Smith
G
Karri Ramo
Reta Berra

Apologies for some reason this is not seperating the players per line even though it looks like it should be in the edit screen.
