Classic case of awful management in anything - thinking one big thing will solve a major, deeply-rooted problem. Look around...it takes a lot of moves, many of them small, over a long period of time to get good.
And MacTavish takes a page out of Feaster's book in making a completely unnecessary statement/promise of something drastic. What exactly is gained by saying this? You already got the job (somehow) so who exactly are you trying to appease or impress?

Didn't Lowe, MacT and Burke have a fall out over offer sheets? Not too sure Burke would even consider working with that group.

Kevin Lowe is obviously way out of control. And there is no way he is not involved in the hockey operations, when really his job description doesn't call for it. Gretzky was gracious enough to accept that working in the game wasn't for him, the least Lowe can do is the same.
Just get out man. You weren't even that good.

No kidding. An inexperienced and in his own words an impatient GM who wants to make a big splash to prove his worth. I bet there are a couple GM's just waiting for the summer to just school MacTavish. I have a feeling the worst is yet to come for Oiler fans. I love it.

Just re-setting up the Lowe tried and true "well we tried" draft day/free agent routine?
Or perhaps the fans (those that pay, that is)?

Who can forget that fiasco? Maybe it'll be more of an incentive for Burke to come here.

The media has been so harsh toward the Flames this season, wonder if they will be consistent and call out the Oilers and Lowe for their stupidity.
Haven't watched TSN today, what are they saying?

I like the fact that the Edmonton media has found their sack and tossed some hard hitting questions at the Oilers management.
Lowe came off like a complete D-bag. Hope he gets canned soon!
The full housecleaning can't come soon enough.

Considering how enjoyable the dog and pony show up north has been, this is a bit of a bummer. I think MacT will make a pretty good GM, and is certainly a more viable long-term option than either Tortellini or Lowe.
MacT has always struck me as a really sharp thinker of the game--as much as we are loathe to admit it, he was a very good coach for the majority of his time behind the Oilers bench. He's got the contacts and the reputation to transition fairly seamlessly into the NHL GM club; I suspect he's far more respected than Tambellini and has far better bedside manner than Lowe.
So I expect he'll be a fairly quick study as a GM and will outlast Lowe, which will be unfortunate as far as observing perpetual trainwrecks goes.

There were at least 3 members of the media asking uncomfortable questions. Spector, Mackinnon, and Van Diest. That is a big departure, from the zero that stepped out of line as long as I can remember.

Lowe sounded like he showed to the presser straight from the bar. Slurring words, can't even pronounce his own players names. What a disgrace.

And judging by the way Lowe reacted to the questions, he's clearly not used to it. I agree, he does come off like a total D-bag. Love how whenever he gets a bit of heat, either from media or other GM's (eg. Burke), he immediately resorts to counting Cups (which he won as a player, a quarter of a century ago. Tell me what that has to do with management ability). What a complete tool.

On of the best quotes yet, especially the last line.

His fingerprints have been on this mess longer than anyone’s — the Oilers made the playoffs just three times in 12 years since he stepped up to a management position in 2000 — but he has been apparently granted lifetime immunity by an owner who’s running this organization like a tree fort instead of a professional hockey team.

This is just amazing. I'll bet today has marked the highest volume of "Thanks" being given on this site since the Canucks failed and rioted.

Brian Burke accused Kevin Lowe of "colossal stupidity," following the signing of Dustin Penner to an offer sheet. Burkie is looking like a genius these days!

Who was the guy who asked the question that got Lowe all fired up?
When he inserted "in 7 seven" in the middle of it, I lost it.
Good on him.
