I hear so much about Nurse, but every time I try to see clips of his play it's fights. Craig Button seems to be relatively high on him.

Button said his choice as the second-best defenceman on the draft board after Jones would be Darnell Nurse of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. Nurse, who has 11 goals, 36 points and 104 penalty minutes this season, is ranked No. 9 on Central Scouting's midterm list.

"He has expanded his game to the point that allows him to impact many areas of the ice," Button said. "I've seen a real progression in his offensive play and a development in terms of his command of the game."

many scouts are raving about the kid, he has great size and seems to project to be a very solid and steady defenseman. Has risen a lot in all the rankings over the past months, I think he was somewhere between 15 and 20 everywhere a few months ago, but all he did was rise and rise. FWIW Button now has him at 6, ahead of Monahan and Lindholm.

Nurse is big, very mobile, has some skills and seems to have a nice mean streak. He's going to be physically dominant in the NHL when he fills out his frame IMO. I'm basing this on watching him in the top prospects game. Very good prospect that I'd be ecstatic to land in other years. Still hoping for a #1 centre or Jones this year. Can't wait til we know our draft position.

How does Nurse compare to Phaneuf at the same age? The description sounds very similar.

What prospect with some flaw that it is currently holding his ranking down, but may be a sleeper pick because the flaw isn't insurmountable? Who is this years Getzlaf, Perry or Weber?

I mentioned Burakowski earlier, who sounds like he has speed and skill, but isn't getting much playing time in Malmo

Perhaps Mantha who is knocked for inconsistency or lackadaisical play, not unlike Getzlaf in 2003

You can't be ~5'8" and be a successful centre in the NHL. He'll be a late round pick.

Nichushkin because of his KHL contract. I'd take this guy over everyone but the top 4

Petan certainly has big numbers, and is the same size as Patrick Kane when he was drafted in 07

aside: funny that the Blackhawks list Kane as 5'11", 180lbs. Anyone believe those numbers?

Giroux and Skinner were around 5'9'' in their draft years IIRC.

Skinner has played mostly on the wing since he started playing in the NHL.

And if that was Giroux's size when he was drafted, he's 5'11" now. Odds are your prospects don't grow that much after they are drafted.

The vary best that is possible is 15th and 21st. If St Louis, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and 5 teams that were better then Stl loss in the first round.

If PIT finishes 2nd in the league, the best that pick could be is 25th. The draft order is organized as:

1-14: Non playoff teams
15-26: Playoff teams eliminated in the first 2 rounds
27-28: Conference Finalists
29: Stanley Cup Finalist
30: Stanley Cup Champion

left winger Taylor Cammarata could be a sleeper as a Gaudreau type. Only 5'7", but had insane USHL stats. Maybe a long-shot, but in a few years, he could reward a team willing to risk a 2nd or 3rd rounder on him.

He could be a really good player and would be a great pick with the Pittsburgh pick, especially great if the Flames still had their 2nd round pick.

hypothetical question for you guys: let's say we draft 3rd overall. COL and FLA draft #1 and #2 and select Jones and MacKinnon, respectively. Do you take Drouin at 3 or go for Barkov? Drouin obviously fits the BPA philosophy, but arguably our two best prospects, Sven and Johnny, are LW already and Barkov would fit better position-wise. What do you do? Go!

I absolutely go with Drouin who is arguably having the best season of any player in the draft.
