I think the style of play is a lot easier in the east for smaller players and that has an impact. Plus that team is just on a roll right now, and when the team is confidant and having fun young guys feed off it.

Blues need to go on a losing streak and finish 8th.

The issue with Malkin is that when he's on, he's stupidly good. But when he's off, he makes really, really poor choices. He gets frustrated, makes bad passes, gets into stickwork with other players, takes stupid penalties, etc. Even when Crosby isn't scoring he's winning faceoffs, he's playing responsibly in his own zone, he's drawing calls, etc. And let's be real--Malkin at his absolute best, as he was last season, he was still sub-Crosby in points per game, and Sid was playing below 100% with Sullivan and Dupuis, while Malkin had a freaking 40 goal scorer on his wing.
I really hope that once Crosby is healthy, Bylsma gets over his need to have Sid with ONLY Dupuis and Kunitz at all times, because Kunitz fits perfectly fine with Malkin/Neal, and Dupuis can play either wing, so he can slot in opposite Iginla. Iginla's game much more compliments Crosby's strengths than Malkin's.

Not sure how he is doing in the NHL but in Juniors Gallagher was a more well rounded player than Sven (i.e. very responsible defensively, Sven obviously more gifted offensively) and it seems a lot of Svens problems come from his overall play and the coaches not feeling confident enough to give him more minutes because giveaways, defensive gaffes etc.
If Gallagher is doing more of the little things right he probably is getting more minutes/opportunities than Sven.
Actually looking at TOI it does appear that he is similar to what Sven was getting early on.

That's the crazy thing, you either win the draft, or you drop another position. It's one or the other.
Knowing that, you've got to finish top 2, or hope to win the lottery. Anything else will be a disappointment.

There is the third and most likely scenario where one of the 3 teams ahead of us wins the lottery and we stay at 4th. Still though, I don't care whether we pick first or third, but 4th would be a huge let down.

Is there any reason that Aittikalo is playing other than the Avs want the first pick and they can use this as a "see what we got in a young kid" excuse to help that along?
Is Varlamov hurt?

What an awful night on the OOT scoreboard. Guess we can't be too surprised, these teams suck for a reason.

Varlamov's hurt, didn't travel with the team to California at all.

Not likely, they would still have a 68.7% chance of picking 4th or better.
So ~60% chance picking 4th, ~30% picking 5th and ~10% chance of picking 1st.
Still prefer they stay in the top 3.

Typical. OOT screws us over 99% of the time.

I love how Noel was so damn happy before tonight's game; well no #### they were playing the Panthers. Might as well just save us all the time and mail their opponents their two points.
That division is a whole is God awful. Not to go all Darryl Sutter on us, but I think the Flames before the trades were better than any of the teams in that division. Washington has looked better recently, but most of that comes from playing the other awful teams in that division. That's one reason I am glad the conference realignment is coming, just to see the South Least finally come to an end.
