If Crosby can't stay healthy through the rest of his career and Ovechkin can, Ovi wins.
I'd rather have the guy that is scoring a little less per game but actually plays every game.

If Crosby never plays another game still a good chance he ends up with a better career than OV.

I'm not glad, in fact it would be a crushing loss for the NHL and I would hate to see it. However the team employs one of the most dangerous players in the history of the NHL and I do feel that it falls into; "what comes around, goes around" territory.

Ovi needs a cup and a gold medal. That's really it.

No but any team with Ovi playing at his best has a good shot at either of those things. Russia has a great chance in Sochi and Ovi is back to carrying the Caps.

Ovi is a great exciting player that makes the game better with his very presence.
But Crosby is far and away the best player in the game. Its not really that close.

I think a few years as undisputed best player in game would be needed as well but maybe his longevity would outweigh Crosby's brilliance.
Don't see him getting either a gold medal and definitely not a Cup.

How can you possibly say he'll never win a cup? He took Crosby and the Pens to game seven of the conference final the year the pens won it.
Ovi was also better than Crosby for the first couple seasons as well. Remember who won the Calder.
If Ovi can get a cup and regain his form longterm while continuing to stay healthy, he wins in my book.

I don't see him with the way he plays of that Caps team winning a Cup.
I guess he could chase a cup at the end if his career and get one as a bit player but in his prime as the focus of a team I don't see it happening.
I would also say Crosby was better throughout whole career but people liked Ovechkins BS flash and overrated him.

Sad to say, Milbury's public roasting of Ovechkin on national television probably did have something to do with the resurgence.
Ovechkin had it coming, just as he's earned his recent kudos.

He also did recently get married. He probably had a lot of crap on his mind and just like every other person in the world, that could've easily distracted him from his job.
Even with his slump, Ovechkin is still outscoring Crosby in the NHL since they started their careers in '05-'06. Being too fragile to play regularly isn't an excuse. Just ask Eric Lindros.
Crosby still has the edge due to team accomplishments (a team that happened to have Malkin, the MVP of their cup run) but if Ovi can regain his form and win a cup, I don't see how you can just declare Crosby the better player simply cause you have some Canadian love affair with him. Especially if he happens to win the Conn Smythe to go with it.

Ovechkin also has 3 consecutive Ted Lindsay awards as the best player in the game as voted by other players.
I think Crosby is the better player today, but you can't take away from Ovechkin just because you don't like his persona or playing style

Crosby is the better player at this point, because he's the better player. Clearly.
All the "ifs" don't change a thing.
Come back when they happen. Until then, with the amount of posts you're dedicating to this make it seem like you're pretty biased and wishful.

I agree, but I'm just saying that I don't think you can just call it so easily.
Who has more points? Ovechkin. That is a fact, not an "if". Actually PPG is more of an "if" cause you assume that IF he played as many as games as Ovi, he'd keep up the same pace.
The fact that Ovi is outscoring Crosby overall, should play a pretty large role in making the decision of who is better, especially on an individual basis.

I just did, and the fact that you're so clearly a huge fan of Ovechkin who agrees that Crosby's currently the better player speaks for itself.

While I agree with much of what you're saying, that was only the second round of the playoffs; he's never been past the second round (made it there three times though).

I think not liking his playing style is a huge reason to take away from Ovechkin, especially in this argument. The fact that he is a selfish, one-dimensional player is a huge reason that he is not close to Crosby.
He did have some undeserved awards early in his career though and I can't take those away from him.
