Really hope we somehow move up in the 6-10 range to get a shot at Monahan. Not sure why but I just have a feeling about that kid, never even seen him play, but when I hear people describe him he just sounds like a good player whose stock dropped due to playing on a brutal team this year.

I think this is going to be a difficult draft to move up. I don't see any team trading out of the top 10 for the Blues and Penguins picks.
I think Barkov is a good pick. However, I see potential issues if he does not have good wingers to set him up. Barkov is pretty much like Iggy in terms of being a sniper, as most of his goals are all blistering shots with deadly accuracy. With someone of his caliber, he needs good play making wingers to compliment him. If we think we have the pieces (or will get pieces) that can play his wing and develop that, then I'd pick Barkov. But if not, I think Mackinnon or Douin would be the better choice. We don't want to have another incident where we have to search for those number 1 L R wingers...last time we did that with a center, it didn't exactly go as planned.

With how highly the first round picks were guarded at trade deadline this year I don't see their value going down before the draft. Would have to be a pretty damn good deal for subside to trade down

Neither do i. If the flames really wanted another top 10 pick, i wonder if they would dangle their 2014 first rounder along with either the Blues or Penguins pick. Other teams would have to think there is a great chance the flames would be top 3 in 2014.
I would not want the flames to do it, but if they did, they better make some RFA pick ups to insure they don't draft top 3.

I think the Iginla comparision is fair after my extensive Youtube scouting . But I do think Barkov has more crease presence than Iginla. He goes right into the dangerous areas... Iginla didn't really do that too much. Obviously Iginla is a winger though. It's quite funny seeing 17 year old Barkov in the crease with a bunch of 25-35 year olds pushing and hitting him, and it doesn't bother him at all.
Another thing I like about Barkov is that he doesn't showboat at all. He is so professional and grounded for a teenaged player these days. You can also see that his teamates respect him.

The only team in the top 10 today that I could see doing it would be Columbas (since they have two extra picks already and are acting like they're in win-now mode with the Gaborik acquisition) and we'd have to throw in some NHL talent on top of the two picks.

Since the 2008 NHL entry draft only 2 top 10 picks have been traded knowingly.
Columbus sent the 8th overall pick in 2011 as part of the package for Jeff Carter and Carolina sent the 7th overall pick in 2012 as part of the package for Jordan Staal.
The other times were from the Phil Kessel trade but unlike Columbus and Carolina, Toronto did not know they would be top 10 picks when they traded them.
So yes, unless the top 10 pick is going towards an established young player it seems GMs aren't going to easily move the pick.
The 2008 entry draft did have some interesting movement though... the Islanders did move from 5th to 7th to 9th.

Found this on HF. Elias Lindholm highlights. Very impressive stuff. Wouldn't be upset if the Flames took him at all:
Very elite puck handling, vision and passing. He did drive the net on a few of the clips as well. This is the kind of year Id be ecstatic about a 5th or 6th overall pick and we'll likely get a higher one.

Not even sure he's dropped at all its just that it is such a strong year that others have exceeded him. I think Monahan sounds like a guy who could go top 3-5 in weaker years.
So, after watching this game and what's going on around the league, I think there is no chance at MacKinnon.
It's going to be
Colorado
Florida/Carolina
Calgary
So we'll either end up at 4 or get pushed to 5th in the lottery.
Does Carolina get Ward back anytime soon? Obviously losing their starte is the main reason they are this low. I really can't imagine them doing worse than the dismantled Flames down the stretch. I'd be shocked if we finished higher than 28th.
Why, because the flames won a single game? After they lost 5 straight? And those 5 straight losses were not pretty at all.
Also the win was against the 30th place team, not exactly glamorous. I wouldn't expect the flames to win many at all :P
In my post you quoted I made no mention of expecting the Flames "to win many at all".
We already sit in 28th points percentage wise (ahead of COL and FLA) and we are not far behind the Canes, who as I mentioned look as though they might not get a single point the rest of the way.
Finishing 27th isn't a stretch at all, and the Flames won't have to get many points to do it IMO.

Yeah at this point I think the team finishes 28th. 4 Straight road games to end out the season and a back-to-backer before those with only two of those games coming against non-playoff contenders. If I were to bet I'd say we go 3-7 over the final ten games and the season is mercifully over.
I base all my draft projections and whatnot based on a few youtube videos and some articles. So from that, you can judge the depth of my observations. It would be cool for everyone to put the extent of their knowledge. i.e. have watched at least 20 Halifax Moosehead games this season vs. based on the 1 liner from the Mckeens latest ranking.
I just don't know whose opinion is more valid. I do know my views are extremely uneducated on the matter.
Even more interesting is the logic that simply because a poster attended x amount of games they now have credible evidence to critique a prospect.....fact is that every fans opinion of a prospect is always going to be based mainly on stats alone so it has to be taken for what its worth.
I really think that with all the good talent in this draft teams are scared by the Russian factor of Nishkuskin and he falls to the Blues pick. Recently unless the Russian is a top 3 pick (Ovechkin, Malkin, Yakupov) they have fallen to the 10-15 range.

Lindholm looks like Forsberg-lite. Jesus. EDIT: saw a stat that he had the 4th highest PPG for a draft eligibile player coming out of the SEL behind only the Sedins and Forsberg himself.

Looking at your list, hindsight so far would suggest that their drop was deserved as they pretty much all have been disappointments in the NHL, still not even made the NHL, or dead (with exception to Couturier and Hamilton).
You didn't even mention Angelo Esposito. It seems like a boon on draft day to grab a falling star as it's good value with a later pick, but the results so far would have to be underwhelming.

I guess that would depend on where you see him. Most mocks and ranking I see have him at/around #5... I think he'd be hard pressed to rise above the big three and Barkov. By default I'd say he's far more likely to drop then rise (although I'd rate stand pat as the most probable outcome).
