As the person who posted the SI article, I guess it's my responsibility to confirm that Renny's information seems correct (his language is right out of the MOU). Sports Illustrared is wrong. The change to the recall rule only affects teams in the postseason, so that's obviously not going to be a concern for us this season. We have 1 more recall available before the Heat's final game on April 20, and then will have unlimited recalls thereafter.
Edit: For what it's worth (probably not much), the guy who wrote the SI article sticks by it and says that he confirmed with an AHL GM that the 4 recall rule is gone. Based on the wording of the MoU and the previous CBA, that is not true, but I guess it's possible that the final CBA language is different.

It's a direct quote from the MoU (page 19): http://cdn.agilitycms.com/nhlpacom/P...ms-1-10-13.pdf

Any chance the final wording changed in the CBA? Just curious is all. Seems like a bad detail for SI to miss completely.

Lol Sven Baertschi isn't going to make this team learn how to play defence. Don't worry, we'll still suck.

They better not have him slotting into bottom 6 minutes. Give him time in every situation. He should be much better now, pressure's off. Just go and show 'em what you got, Sven...and for the life of you have some fun out there.

Based on merit, Sven doesn't deserve a call-up. He's been a complete non-factor in most of his games since being sent down. He's trying to dangle defensemen down here and they undangleable. He's just trying to do a little too much.
If it was based on merit, Blair Jones would already be in Calgary.

I think that would be a mistake from the psychological aspect. We are going to bury Sven in the minors while Horak, Reinhart and whoever else get a chance? How do you think that would make Sven feel?
They seem to be going about it the right way. Giving their top prospects (Horak, Sven, Reinhart) a chance late this season. Those guys will be core guys very soon.

Gotta wonder what Jones did. Not sure why he was sent down and why he wasn't recalled. Not like this team couldn't use a big, young checking centre for the 4th line.

Goes back to the Goalie running incident when he was up here, our goalie got plowed and he pretty much picked up the opposing teams player handed him his stick and asked him if he was alright.

Why's that? He hasn't been dominating down in the AHL. Horak deserved his recall.

The only two players on the Heat that can take a game over is Taylor, Jones and Baertschi. Sven hasn't been cutting it the last few games.
Jones, on the other hand, doesn't know the word quit. He busts his ass every single game that I've seen and is a real a-hole on the ice.
I'm just saying that if this organization was truly based on merit, Jones would be up instead of Sven.
With that said, I look forward to seeing if this call-up reinvigorates Baertschi.

Baertschi may have a huge confidence boost because of this, and that's probably the managements goal. He's the most talented player in Abby, that's for sure.

I believe with the call ups of Max and Sven we've only used up 2 of our 4 possible recalls. The Carson recall should be an injury replacement for Smith. Maybe even the Byron injury will make another one of our recalls hidden under the injury replacement rule.

I know people love piling on Feaster, but this is from the NHL website:
"The existing “Four Recall Rule” will continue to be applicable, but only during the period between the Trade Deadline and the end of the Regular Season. Following the conclusion of the NHL Regular Season, a Club may exercise an unlimited number of additional Regular Recalls provided that it may have no more than three (3) Players on its Active Roster who were recalled by way of Regular Recall after the Trade Deadline, unless the fourth Player had been recalled during the Regular Season in which case such Player may remain in the NHL."
Also, it is my understanding the final CBA still has yet to be completed, and as of late February, based upon those i spoke to, no one had seen the final document.
So, unless I am mistaken on the above, give it a bit of a rest with the piling on, ok?
Edit: Should have kept reading, but cut the piling on when it's not necessary...

You have to use your press box guys first before you can make an emergency recall. Since Babchuk was available, Carson would count as a normal recall.
