NHL central scouting is finalizing their rankings for the draft starting today.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/blog.htm?id=1...site-Draft2013

Some comments coming out of the OHL discusions:
Quote:
On Monahan: "Never quits; gave it 110 percent and played as well as he could on a bad Ottawa team. Eric Staal-like."

On Nurse: "What a season he had. Can play strong at both ends and plays with a great edge. Is also a great guy off the ice."

What a goof.
Totally based on bias judgement here. Unfair to place this "goof" below the current top 4 guys (because that is where the Flames might be picking). Yakupov's first year and only played 30 odd games and you are judging him worse than the unknown current draft year prospects (?) Wow.

From listening to his interviews and reading what was quoted, Yakupov is only scratching the surface. Besides his immense talent, this kid is grounded, loyal and very respectful of his teammates and coaches. He is willing to learn all facets of the game and become a better player and help his team.

I didn't like Yakupov in his draft year
I like him less now

Comparing a guy drafted in 2012 with the current draft crop isn't that hard to do. This year's top end has way more upside without the warts that last year's high selections had.

He'll prove to be a very weak first overall selection.

Edmonton will get tired of his act and he'll be gone within 5 years.

Anyone have a list of the picks the Flames are projected to have this summer? Assuming the Blues make the playoffs, we should have (approximately) a 3rd, 16th and 28th overall. If the Blues make the playoffs, anyone think the Flames trade the 16th and 28th for a second top ten pick? What a coup it would be to get a MacKinnon/Barkov AND a Monahan/Nurse.

At the start of the season, I would have cried in happiness if I knew we'd have a 20% chance at a lottery pick, now i'm not satisfied without 2 picks in the top 10.

Am I a bad person -_- ?

Having yet to watch any of these current draft prospects played in an NHL game, it is quite premature to make those statements. I am not sure what act you are referring to but Edm have the same feelings as I do about Yakupov (as previously stated in my pre post) that this guy has not shown what he can do -give him a year or three (ex Mr Hall) then we will have a better picture of Yakupov.

Well based on April 5th's standings before any games and the draft lottery the picks would go like this:

1 Colorado
2 Florida
3 Calgary
4 Buffalo
5 Tampa Bay
6 Carolina
7 Dallas
8 Philadelphia
9 Winnipeg
10 Nashville
11 Phoenix
12 Washington
13 Columbus
14 New Jersey
15 Edmonton
16 Columbus (from NYR)
17 NY Islanders
18 Calgary (from STL)
19 Detroit
20 Buffalo (from MIN)
21 Toronto
22 San Jose
23 Ottawa
24 Columbus (from LA)
25 Vancouver
26 Boston
27 Montréal
28 Anaheim
29 Calgary (from PITT)
30 Chicago

If Columbus slips into the top 10 and don't win the lottery, I think you can package the St Louis and Pittsburgh pick for theirs, so they end up with 4 first rounders.

Philly and Carolina are in win now mode so a decent roster player and a 1st may get you one of their picks at the draft.

With Crosby out of the Pens roster they've been losing, so that 29th pick is on the rise. Unfortunately the Blues' offense has all but dried up of late, and Bouwmeester isn't going to help much there -- so they'll have to squeak in.

It will be difficult to suck more than the Panthers or the Avalanche.

Assuming we can only get one of those top-tier guys and we keep all three 1st round picks, a few guysthat interest me include...

Anthony Mantha: No idea why this guy isn't ranked higher. He's a monster, a dominating center int he QMJHL. Posted 50 goals this season. This would be a guy I would target with the ~18th overall. One of the older guys in the draft but he already has the NHL frame (6'4" 220lbs).

Kerby Rychel: Kind of overlooked as he plays on a terrible Windsor team. A top OHL goal scorer, has all-around ability and plays a physical game. Reportedly has developed into quite a leader for the Spitfires. Would love to have him ~29th overall, if he drops that far.

I'm not too sure about this. The Panthers and Avs actually have decent teams who just aren't playing well. I think it's only a matter of time before we're 30th

MacKinnon with 4 primary assists tonight.

I know it's just Juniors, but he's also been very good on faceoffs all year, around 56%.

Although MacKinnon doesn't have the wow factor or the numbers that Drouin has, I feel like he's a better all around player. Often he's the best player during a certain play but he won't get points for it. Really like the Parise comparisons I've heard.

I thought Mantha was a LW?

I know John has the high iq and quick hands, but Nathan has al those plus big time game changing speed, a big shot, plus he's tenacious at both ends of the rink a rarity, and even bigger rarity in this team for years.

This team is starved for a young star, but a young star that plays a high motor two way game? How can we pass him up?

He also went 9/15 on faceoffs tonight, and led his team in hits with 2. Was a +1 in a 7-0 route. 6 of the seven goals were scored on special teams.

Conversely, Drouin scored 1g 0a, was also a +1, went 0/1 on faceoffs, and threw 1 hit.

Jones and the Winterhawks open their second round series tonight at 7pm against Spokane.

It's pretty much like the seguin vs hall debate. Two players both considered 1st overall picks.

If you had to re do that you take seguin over hall a right handed center over a winger.

Same boat of Nathan vs John. Except both these I think are a cut above both hall and seguin.

Wow.

Pot calling the kettle black.

Verve, all you do is come here and try to gloat about things that have yet to happen.

The Oilers have done nothing but suck... but all you do is come here and talk about how good they will (eventually, and speculatively) be.

Everything you ever come to say here are premature statements and notions.

The irony in this post couldn't be thicker.

I don't think I care between Drouin and Mackinnon anymore and almost hope the flames dont have to make the choice. The media and fans will crucify the flames if anyone of the top 3 we bypassed at any point in time is better than the person we pick. I really don't want to here the debate or be part of that debate. I want to enjoy the guy we get.

That said I don't want to pick Jones as #1 defensemen as defensemen drafted in the top 3 rarely turn out as all stars. Much better to take the forwards.
