Fasth? Just curious how this Berra and Ramo are going to stack up in the NA game, Ramo already had a chance and flunked out. Tampa seems to be a graveyard for goalies though..

Lundqvist came over at 23; Backstrom at 28; Hiller at 25; Rinne at 23

I know we aren't even 2 years out from this draft, but I think it's a good sign that we will probably end up signing every one of the draft picks from the 2011 draft.
I know it's only 5 picks, but when was the last time the flames thought enough about their draft picks to sign everyone from a particular year?

I wonder if any team has ever ended up signing each draft pick from a draft. Definitely a good sign
I'm not really all that sold on Granlund though

I hope we add to that list, but the last "best player outside the NHL" we signed didn't fair to well.
Should have scrolled down:

That list makes me feel a bit better, thanks.
For the record, I actually want them to give Cervenka a second chance.

This was a no brainer for the Flames. This kid has exceeded expectations so far and is trending up. Who know how far it goes, but you have to see it through.

So under contract we have:
Kipper (technically)
Berra
Brossoit
Ortio
And pending free agents
MacDonald (UFA)
Irving (UFA)
Taylor
Any need to re-sign any of those last 3?

I wouldnt be surprised if Irving and his agent are talking about non-Flames options at this point. A two-way deal with an NHL team or a contract in Europe.

Yep, if there's anything Feaster is under appreciated for, it's the 2011 draft. There's a good chance that 2-3 of them could be impact players at the NHL level, and a decent chance that all 5 will see play time in the NHL.
Up until this year, that was the most important draft for the Flames in 10 years.

If that's Ramo, Berra, Broisoit, Ortio, MacDonald etc... whoever. While some would say it's better to get as much playing time in for Brossoit and the AHL is better then back-up I think being in the pros, practicing day in and day out is just as good, as well as getting some starts.
|
Yup. The Flames will be bad next year and the year after anyways, so bringing in a veteran backup is something I'd rather see them not do and just ride two young guys the whole way and let them learn. Goalies need to play to improve and I'd be happy to see an even split between two kids than the majority of games going to some veteran goalie. I'd even say the Flames should let MacDonald walk.

So does this mean Taylor and Brust are gone? LB the starter in Abbotsford/Utica, Ortio backing him up?

I'd re-sign Taylor. He's a good option for backup in the NHL or starter in the AHL. You forgot to mention that we will have Ramo.

Man, someone is going to have to remind me of the circumstances, but did the Flames seriously only have 3 picks in the 2011 draft prior to gaining the 2 2nd rounders in the erixon trade? Were other picks traded at the draft to move up?

Funny thing is.. out of all the goalies the Flames have, I believe Jon Gilles has the highest potential.

That seems like the wisest use of contract space. Brust and Taylor don't need to be here ahead of LB and Ortio.

They traded their 5th rounder along with Erixon for Horak and 2 2nds
So going in they had: 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th
I think

Not so sure that LB starts in Abby, there is a big gap between the shooters in the CHL and the shooters in the AHL. I think he'll serve as backup in his first year. Ortio might start in the ECHL
I think one of Taylor or Brust will be back as the starter in Abby on an AHL deal like the start of this season
