I don't think there have been many cheering for losses in the first few weeks but if you're talking about when it's painfully obvious that this team can't win on a regular basis and were already down in the standings by a lot, I'm fine with cheering for losses. I don't think I was ever really cheering for losses, I was predicting them (safe prediction for the most part). Some people think that you should only hope for losses when the team is mathematically eliminated, some can see the end before they get there I guess.

As a fan of another last place team, I can say that it isn't fun at all. At least there are only 16 games in the NFL. Watching the Flames stink it up every other night is down right depressing.
The Chiefs flushed the toilet after their embarrassing 2-14 last place finish (worst in franchise history) firing the head coach and the GM, and released their crappy QB Matt Cassel. Now they have the number one pick, a proven NFL Coach (although someone else's garbage, hopefully a change of scenery does him some good), a new GM with lots of experience with the Green Bay Packers, and a new QB in Alex Smith.
It took a push back by the fans in Kansas City to bring about change. Plenty of empty seats in Arrowhead for the last two months of the season. Those that did attend draped themselves in black, as a sign of mourning. Save Our Chiefs payed for banners to be flown over the stadium before games asking for the firing of GM Scott Pioli. They also organized the Black Out Arrowhead campaign.
Now that the Flames have decided to rebuild, they need to flush the toilet as well. Get rid of the GM who has overseen this debacle (I'm suspicious that he is just following the orders of Ken King who is following the orders of Murray Edwards). Get rid of Ken King. Hire a new coaching staff that can work with young players. If we are truly going to rebuild lets do it from the top down.

I blame this group for saddling us with a team of smurfs. One or two is okay but looking at our lineup the biggest player in our top 9 is wait for it, Cervanka at 201 lbs. and there are only 2 who are in any way physical. Our biggest defenceman is an over the hill Sarich at 207 lbs. Generally you try to put a stay at home physical defenceman with a mobile scoring man. We've got 1 physical defenceman and he doesn't play much. Yeah, Giordano will step up now and than but that isn't his game and we shouldn't expect it of him.

There's one thing I do want to see. If the rumors are true, and they appear to be, I want to see the Flames ownership have complete hands off. I want to see Murray Edwards shut the F up and just contribute financially.

Feasters draft record with Flames soo far. Lots of potential, I agree that none have actually panned out yet. But it sure seems like he's going in the right direction and making good picks.
|
Even GM's that come from a hockey background are not involved in anyone after the 1st round pick (i.e. only involved in scouting their 1st rounder). Usually, and especially the case with Feaster and Feaster has said this, he lets his scouts do their job. All those players would have been drafted with or without Feaster; Feaster's main job is the NHL transactions, trades (fail) and signings (fail).
Also, of the 2 1st round picks mentioned here; its confirmed that the Flames draft list had Ryan Murphy (7th on our list, Sven was 8th)... so we lucked out there. Jankow? We'll see.... I don't mind the pick, but can't celebrate victory yet.
When looking at the overall body of work from Feaster, it can be summarized as:
- dodged bullets (Brad Richards, Ryan Smyth, ROR fiasco)
- PR nightmare (ROR, Iginla to Boston)
- took midrange team and sunk it to a last place team
- more NTC/NMC, but this time to bottom pairing and press box defenseman rather then top 6 fwd / top 4 D
- "hands were tied" trades

Last night was honestly the worst thing I've ever seen. I can't even look at Twitter or Facebook today out of pure shame. We looked like crap, and we only had 1.5 lines that looked like they actually cared.
The next few years, regardless of what Feaster says, are going to be tough. Most likely we aren't going to be playoff contenders next season, but hopefully there will be some improvement, and that improvement will come from newer, younger players, who are hopefully going to play like they want to be here and haven't checked out for the season.
Just be happy that this is a short season. I don't think I would be able to handle playing every game like that in a regular length season.

Thats why I didn't want the lockout to end. I knew we had nothing but heart ache to look forward to this season.

Then the rebuild likely would have been delayed a year and we would have missed out on this year's excellent top 4.
A shortened season was probably the best thing that could have happened for this franchise. We were out of it early, and luckily we only have to bear it for a dozen more games.

Haven't read through the whole thread so this may be a fata.
What I don't want to see is a situation where we take a number one draft pick and immediately turn him into the face of the franchise.
I think Hall is pretty decent, but can't help but think that his career would have been better served with less pressure and room to grow into that role.
The whole circus around him taking #4 and being the franchise savior couldn't have helped his game, or at the very least couldn't have been easy on him.
Let the player that represents the Flames emerge, don't force it just to keep ticket sales up.

The idea is to give him a promotion in charge of the new arena and oversee the other Flames properties. In other words he'd be out of directly interfering with the Flames.

The shortened season also prevented some crazy middle-late season run that would have put us out of a high draft pick position. Good bless the lock out.

I don't want to see Seth Jones in Flames gear. We need skill up front.
I don't want to see any more Heritage Classic jerseys in the stands once we make the playoffs. It messes up the C of Red. This will give you a couple more years (or more) before you have to retire the jersey
I don't want to see dudes eating pocket dawgs
I don't want to see the guy in front of me renew his season tix. His head is enormous. It's like having the Jack in the Box mascot in front. I think his hat size is 16 3/4".
I don't want to see the Flames bring in any more college players.
I don't want to see Todd Button return next year.
I don't want to see the Flames trade down in the draft any more.
I don't want to see dudes in unitards. Ever.
That should do it for now.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Flames leave their final home game to a shower of empty beer cups.
But there are things that I don't want to see.
Any kind of party celebrating a first round draft pick . . . ever.
-If I am going to support this team through a rebuild you bet I am going to cheer if we get a top pick by winning the lottery. I am disappointed and embarassed it has come to this but I am also going to cheer for the team to get better and winning the lottery is part of that.
Our GM with a smirk or a smile on his face as he talks about getting a top pick. You failed and the organization failed, getting a top pick is no reason to celebrate.
- I agree to a point, at the moment of winning the lottery though he has to smile because of what it can mean for the franchise.
Cheerleaders in the stands. We don't need distractions from the miseries of watching this abortion.
- I agree, cheerleaders are not hockey.
The end of the words intellectual honesty, if anyone uses it HIYAH Throat punch.
- Meh, everyone has their own catch phrases. This happens to be one of Feaster's.
Personally after tonights game I'd like to see the Flames take the ice in the next game wearing their ratty practice jerseys, tonight was a disgrace to the Flames colors.
- I would laugh if they did this, but they were a disgrace, especially to those beautiful vintage jerseys.
No smirks no draft parties at the Dome, no cheerleaders and most of all, I never want to see garbage like I saw tonight from my team.
- Why can't we have draft parties? We should celebrate the future. It ay be the only positive for a couple years. Plus its extra revenue to help make up for all the people that bitched about wanting a rebuild then won't show up when times are tough.
Period.

Hopefully dont see the tarps back on the bleeders, wouldnt surprise me though.
Think next year will be ok but unless there is some serious hope after that i alot of ppl will pull plug imo.
And i would get used to the feeling of the dome getting overun. I foresee flames fans being trumped by fans of every other visiting canadian team worse than it has been in the past. Nature of the beast here in calgary. Lots of transplants and lots of flames fans allergic to cheering for anything other than a late gwg goal or a first place team means a pretty sad home ice advantage. I cant stand it.
Hopefully im wrong.
