Yep, this is what rebuilding is. There are going to be a lot more of these growing pains (like a few seasons worth), so people best be getting used to it.

People seem to quickly forget how dramatically different the team that entered this season was from the last one to play when D. Sutter was still the GM. I fear that if you want "answers" you will be disappointed on all fronts.

So, this is a bottom-place team. New territory. Clearly a long time in coming. Not an enjoyable place to be.

However, today's situation shows the way forward. The rebuild is indeed on, and it will remain to be seen how it transpires. Is Feaster the right man for this job? It seems likely not, given his history, but by the same token, I think this is new territory for him as well. I take some solace in the fact that the early returns of both of Feaster's drafts have been very positive. If this team is committed to building through the draft and through their acquisition of prospects and pre-apex players, I think that we should agree that Feaster and his staff have so far done well in their attempts to begin laying the foundation for a new base. People have expressed concern about Feaster's "plan", and while we should not expect any sort of disclosure, I think there is some evidence as to what that plan is. Most specifically, this team is targeting players who exhibit a high "hockey IQ": in my estimation, this is a good thing.

Perhaps I am guilty of being excessively patient, but I think it is too early to determine Feaster's long-term fate.

What did you think was happening with this team for the last two weeks? Did you think they were stocking up on picks, trading the Captain and our best defenseman, and adding prospects in order to go on a long playoff run? Most here have been clamoring for this day for years and now that it's here people are acting shocked that we are losing?

I will be supporting this team through this rebuild and thats going to include going to a bunch of crappy games like this.

Well then what about Hartley. I hate to think of firing a coach one year in but it happened with a better coach in Playfair and I believe it should happen with Hartley. They guys doesn't like to play rookies which is a major issues with a rebuilding team and worse than that his team has absolutely no defensive structure in an era where defense is more important than offense just ask last year's Stanley Cup winning team.

Hartley has to go unless the goal is to tank like the Oilers did and pick 1st overall multiple years. Bring in Ward as at least he knows defensive structure and would be a hell of a lot better bringing in the rookies. I don't want another year like this year where he is destroying the confidence of young players like Sven all the while giving veteran players all the ice time on a team that gives up 4+ goals every game.

This truly is the darkest timeline. I am not surprised at the result but I won't ever cheer for last place regardless of how good the draft year is. That's for Oilers fans.

Holy crap.

Moving forward Feaster better find 2 #1 pairing dmen because Wideman and Giordano are not top 2 dmen. Terrible.

I still don't understand the recent obsession with general managers hiring best friends and family members to be coach. Hartley is not a good coach, particularly for a rebuilding team when he refuses to play young players.

Yeah, I have to agree. I think the team needs a new coach, which is really ridiculous considering the recent coaching history of the Calgary Flames. That alone almost justifies keeping Hartley on, which is absurd.

I don't see how anyone can blame Hartley after less than 40 games. And any games from here until the end of the season are pretty much write-offs given that we just had a firesale.

I would have loved to see Hartley with the teams Brent Sutter had (Iginla and Kipper being 3 years younger, Phaneuf, Bouwmeester who played better under Hartley, A younger Jokinen at centre).

A lot of things went wrong this year. Backlund getting hurt, Cervenka not panning out at centre, Kiprusoff playing like absolute garbarge when he wasn't hurt (sorry to the apologists, but he has been poo this season). Not to mention a lockout and no real training camp for a new coach to even get a feel for his team.

I don't think any coach could get better results under these conditions. Given how Hartley worked with young players in Colorado, I think he is worth keep for another season at least.

I agree. The guy is at least a positive, passionate rah-rah kind of guy. Flames are gonna need that attitude the next little while, that's for damn sure.

I expect the efforts will improve in the next few games as the trade deadline shifts into the past. You can't expect players to be sitting around until 1pm wondering if they are going to get moved and then play a game a few hours later and put out a good performance.

Also don't get the fire the coach mentality. The team is going to be terrible for a few years. There's no reason to run through 5 coaches while you are bad. Let one guy stick it out and take their lumps and then you can decide on the coaching position when you're ready to take a step forward.

Boy am I glad I turned off the game after it was 4-2.

-Horak leads the team in shots, actually plays defense, and he gets rewarded with being benched. Awesome job Hartley.

-Floaty Mcfloater Tanguay leads forwards in icetime. No shots on goal, no hits, no defense, no heart. Awesome job Harley.

-Leave Macdonald on the ice for 8 goals against. Awesome job Hartley, humiliate our goalie on home ice.

Pathetic effort by a pathetic group.

Should've traded his ass before the trading deadline just like Iggy, JBo, and Comeau. If he's this bad for next season, who's gonna want to trade for him? I an understand it if management had put a no-trade list that included prospects like Baertschi and a guy like Brodie, but all the other veterans in the lineup should've been a free-for-all after Iggy went. The Flames fire sale was more like a stingy garage sale that really had nothing in the garage and a bunch of junk in the trunk that everyone left behind.

I love the idea of trading Jio at the draft along with the Pens and/or Blues pick to get another top 5 pick. Gio has shown he's a good player when there are other good players around him, when the chips are down I don't think he's good enough to lead.

8-2? You F'n kidding me?

I"m not gong to lie, since we are all but eliminated I have stopped paying as much attention to the game. By that I mean, I will watch the game, even if i'm in class, or actually especially if i'm in class but if i got something else to do I'll do it.

Just 2-weeks ago, the world would stop at game time.

I keep seeing people wanting to trade up, but I don't see it happening. Who would want Giordano over any of the top five in the draft???
