Doesn't the team who wins the lottery move to 1st, and that's the end of it? So the Flames could only drop 1 spot to #2.

Next up are the Sharks and Canucks back to back..
If all goes well, we can be tied for dead last when we wake up Sunday morning.
The panthers need to continue their win streak and the Avs really need to finally win

Yeah, nothings really funny about the team right now though. The team has been gutted and it's not gonna be pretty for a long while. Tonight just cemented that fact in everyone's mind.

If I were a member of the media, I would try to dig out former Flames and try to get tidbits of what's going on in the locker room, may be Nolan, may be Juice, may be someone who is willing to unveil what has happened. I know, perhaps most of them won't throw people under the bus, even the one who did - Keenan - people may not quite buy in.

I think Pat is overestimating the quality of players left on this team. The fourth line has the only heart left. There is no free pass, just resignation, because the remaining players aren't capable of rising far enough to make a difference.

Properly constructed teams require competent GMs, not GMs that don't seem to have a real plan

Stajan with 2 goals and +/- of 0.
Stempniak with a point and +1.
If you want to look for players who tried, in a game like this, those are not bad results and makes me think that keeping these guys around for the rebuild makes sense. We'll need guys with that attitude in the coming years.
Guys like Cammalleri and Tanguay, who are all about scoring and play the worst defensive game in the team, these guys we need to get rid of. We don't want that attitude around for the rebuild.
I think it will be interesting to see who on the team can find their pride and keep playing through the rest of the season. It will say a lot about them as players.
In other news, what a total mess this season has been. If Feaster still has a job past the regular season I will be very disappointed.

Even if they did, I'm not sure what sort of useful information these players you mentioned could provide. Both Nolan and Huselius—and likely any other player in a position and willing to speak frankly about the locker room—were all part of a past regime. People seem to quickly forget how dramatically different the team that entered this season was from the last one to play when D. Sutter was still the GM. I fear that if you want "answers" you will be disappointed on all fronts.
So, this is a bottom-place team. New territory. Clearly a long time in coming. Not an enjoyable place to be.
However, today's situation shows the way forward. The rebuild is indeed on, and it will remain to be seen how it transpires. Is Feaster the right man for this job? It seems likely not, given his history, but by the same token, I think this is new territory for him as well. I take some solace in the fact that the early returns of both of Feaster's drafts have been very positive. If this team is committed to building through the draft and through their acquisition of prospects and pre-apex players, I think that we should agree that Feaster and his staff have so far done well in their attempts to begin laying the foundation for a new base. People have expressed concern about Feaster's "plan", and while we should not expect any sort of disclosure, I think there is some evidence as to what that plan is. Most specifically, this team is targeting players who exhibit a high "hockey IQ": in my estimation, this is a good thing.
Perhaps I am guilty of being excessively patient, but I think it is too early to determine Feaster's long-term fate.

These guys are above average pieces if they have a good center with whom they play. You can't throw the baby out with the bath water. They are quality wingers and a serviceable C with decent offensive instincts and a solid D game could change minds.
Having said that, Cammalleri's contract is not very forgiving. At 6 M you need to be an impact player.
That is why Iggy at 7M is way better than Cammalleri at 6. He has done it for years, made a difference consistently , without somebody else lifting him to those heights. That is why he is a franchise player and that is very rare.

Tanking or not, Hartley isn't showing that he's a capable coach for the team going forward. How a team can be so bad defensively as the Flames have been, I have no idea.

I'm not sure why you should like someone just because they share the same religion as you. I thought religion teaches you to love everyone.
Anyway, I'm saddened to see the day that we get our asses handed to us by the Coilers of all teams. With Iggy gone, this has to be one of the darkest seasons in Flames history for sure.

Jacques Cloutier. Avs fans can attest that his defensive systems were terribad.
