When it comes to Jay Feaster actions speak louder then words.
He made two huge trades and has three first round picks this summer. I'm not worried about what he says to the media, he loves an open mic.

Sarich not being moved was confusing me...but I thought he was a UFA upcoming...with another year left on his deal, it makes a lot more sense as there wasn't likely any takers...that's ok, Feaster can get a late pick for him at next years deadline.

You're more of an optimist than I am, I agree with Mike Johnson on the TSN panel that Feaster could have gotten allot more for Iginla and JBow, combine that with the ROR fiasco and he leaves me severely underwhelmed.

Also a potential for the 2nd to become a 1st in the Jagr deal.

Coming to the realization that the majority of guys that are still here are going to likely be available at both the draft and at the deadline next year makes me feel less apprehensive about the lack of deals.
We still have the ability to trade off players as we go through a rebuild. Don't let any of the words Feaster might say about going for the playoffs next year fool you, this team does not have anywhere near the talent necessary to do so. The Flames will likely be in the 13-15 spot with the current format of the team.

Many of the guys will have more value next year. Nobody would have taken Cammalleri on this year or Tanguay. The cap uncertainty next offseason means that anyone with a big salary for next season that isn't a core guy is essentially valueless.

Well, if a couple media hacks assert with no evidence that there was a huge market for a non-physical defenseman who hasn't been a plus player in 6 years and is having his first decent offensive season in 4, and is signed for another year at a $6.7 million cap hit, I'm convinced!
A lot of the Bouwmesster analysis has just been lazy. Yes, the Flames have been a bad organization for a while. But that doesn't make every single move made by the organization bad. Two months ago, people would have laughed if they said you could have gotten a 1st rounder for Bouwmeester. If you're telling me a lot more is out there, I'm going to need a better argument than "nyuk, nyuk, Flames are the suxxor."

Last week, John Shannon laughed at Jeff Marek and said no one would take Bouwmeester's contract. So who to believe between talking heads?

If he could have gotten a lot more for Iginla and Jbouw then why didn't he?
I don't want to revisit all the discussions about those deals but fan and media perception of player value is constantly proven to be inaccurate.
What matters is what the teams are willing to give up - and in the case of those players a restricted list of teams given the NTCs involved.

Can anyone please advise on the current status of the Flames no. 1 draft pick from last year - the kid from high school in Quebec? Thanks.

Cammy will have an opportunity to be a real leader on this team next year. Hopefully he steps up and scores 30+.....and then promptly gets traded for a 1st rounder.

And, of course, if they had been traded for what they plausibly could have gotten back -- as opposed to the imaginary market of teams willing to give up A prospects and first round picks for expensive non-elite players that some people seem to believe exists -- the same people complaining that they weren't moved would be calling for Feaster's head on a pointed stick.

There's an old homily: "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." (not that I necessarily believe that)
In the case of talking heads it should be: "Those who can, play. Those who can no longer do, or never could....just talk. Mostly nonsense."
The nonsense about Iggy is just that: when a player has one team he'll deal with you get what you can -- the talking heads can't seem to get that one right. He never had to give the Flames multiple teams to choose from - he could have started at the outset with one word: "Pittsburgh". End of story.
JBo? Maybe - but there was a risk in waiting. He "might" have gotten more - that's the best someone can say. All the rest is just fluff to fill airtime.

Desire for more NHL ready prospects vs. long term projects (i.e. 2nd rounder or higher potential long term players).

I give Feaster a 'D'
Sure his "hands were tied" or value isn't there or couldn't find a dance partner. But just because I couldn't sleep the night before the exam due to the fire alarm going off, I'm not going to get any sympathy points for my grade. I would have given the return a "C+" (average grade), but docked a few points for the ROR/Boston drama and how much of a circus everything became.
