"Open for Business" does not mean "Open to be bent over the table".
Seemed like he wanted to make deals, made a lot of phone calls, but in the end didn't have the right elements on the table to make a deal. Yeah, would've loved to see some more picks coming back, but hey, it's not a tragedy.
I have a feeling we'll see some more action during the Draft.

Give him a B+ or A-. Iginla return was poor but his hands were tied; you can blame him for not acting more quickly but as of now it was as good as one can do. The Bouwmeester trade was fine; maybe you could have gotten a little more, but for most of the time over the last 2 years you would have gotten a lot less; he was smart to take the 1st rounder while it was there. Getting anything for Comeau is a coup.

yeah, as soon as I saw Redden and Hannan go for a 7th I knew there wasn't going to be much of a market for Sarich and Babchuk.

Oddly enough even children know the worth of a trade. I think you are very misguided if you think Babchuk and Jackman had tonnes of offers and Feaster just decided they were chocolate chip cookies.
|
He was offered a 7th last trade deadline for Jackman (his words). He should have been traded then.
If a player doesn't play, he can't really build up his value. That is what I said about Babchuk in my initial post.
That's bad asset management no matter how you try and spin it.

I believe in the Jays.
|
Given the market I think he did alright... all the talking heads were wrong, it ended up being a buyers market not a sellers.
2 first rounders and 4 prospects (albeit prospects of dubious quality). Not a bad haul. The draft and free agency day should be interesting given how many picks and how much cap space Calgary has.

But yet Buffalo can get a 1st, three 2nds and two decent prospects for Pominville and Regehr.......

If ever a team deserved an "Incomplete", its the Flames this year. No possible way to judge how they did until 2015 the earliest with the fact they traded for nothing but picks and prospects.

2014 prediction:
Camallerri, Stempniak, and Sarich traded for picks/prospects at the deadline.

Yeah, Babchuk isn't good enough to play for one of the worst defensive teams in the league, but I'm sure lots of contending teams were lining up with draft picks and prospects to acquire him if only they had seen him play badly a few more times. And I'll bet the market for Jackman, a one-dimensional tough guy who doesn't win fights, was even greater. Fire Feaster now.

You're the GM of a team other than the Calgary Flames:
What would you give up to acquire The Anton?

I really think Darcy Regier has dirt on every GM in the league as his past two trade deadlines have been viewed as wins. He just needs to work on his July 1st UFA signings!

Sellers made out like bandits today. Buffalo, Nashville and Rangers all got great deals. Looked like a sellers market for sure.
Hard to say what was out there but sure would have liked a few more guys moved than just Comeau.
The returns for Iginla and Bouw were underwhelming if not awful.
I would say he gets a D right now with possibility of F if it comes out there were good deals for guys like Tanguay, Glencross and Cammy.

To reiterate, only two first rounders changed hands this deadline. Both going to the Flames. I think that's important, the value of the 1sts is clearly very high.

I'm honestly grumpy about the lack of Flames deals today and I'm not going to support or justify my feelings.

I'm not over the moon that all of Tanguay, Cammi and Stempniak are still here, but the complete work up to and including the draft is where I'm going to make my real judgement. This 3 month period has to be filled with great execution by the Flames or this is really going to drag out.

Thought it went ok. Was really hoping for a deal like Nsh did for Forsberg or Buf got for Pom. One, highly touted prospect entering the system in addition to the couple 1sts we did alreadysecure. Clearly the market wasn't there for that though and you have to believe Feaster was working everyone he could. Few moves today is better then a bunch of bad moves today.
